"Be forewarned - NO WMA lossless"

by alvester on July 6, 2007

    Pros: Easy interface

Cons: no WMA Lossless support, no Music Giants compatibility

Summary: Be forewarned though it says Sonos says it supports WMA it actually does not support all WMA files. Specifically it does not support WMA Lossless which is the format in which I have over 800 of my CD's ripped. So keep in mind the Sonos can NOT play back high quality bought music from stores like Music Giants, which sells only CD quality WMA lossless files. I was a split second from buying this thing after trying it out but luckily I emailed their tech support folks and asked if it could play WMA Lossless. They said it doesn't support WMA Lossless and that they can't say if it ever will.

This "review" would have been useful had he actually reviewed the product rather than rating it based on a lack of one feature only. Not really a review at all but rather a comment.

While I have no doubt this feature may be important to some, it is not a valid reason to rate this product a 4 - that is silly. You can easily convert WMA lossless files to another supported lossless format such as FLAC. You have rated Sonos a 4 in a review saying you didn't even buy it, also silly...

I don't have a large collection of CD's or downloaded music. So, for me the combination of seamless integration with 4 different audio systems in my house for Rhapsody and Pandora is exactly what I needed. It does seem to play my limited collection of ripped CD's and MP3's perfectly as well. If only it distributed HD video, it would be totally awesome. I'd also say that the Rhapsody interface needs to be improved - you can't search for a specific track, everything has to go through Genre and Artist, BEWARE.
