"Not as good as I thought"

    by walkman88us on December 16, 2005

    Pros: compact, features

    Cons: software is lousy

Summary: O.K. I know I am new to the camcorder game so I did a lot of research and decided on the DC20. The camera itself is pretty good but the darn software sucks. Movies are segmented each time you start and stop but the softward only allows you to view the first segment on computer. Keeps telling me I need the Deluxe software package at $99.00. Give me a break! $800 bucks for a camera and they don't include the software you need to view your work. Also, will not allow me to view stills off of the media card. Mines on a one way trip back to the store!

This is my first DVD camcorder. Did lots of reserch on consumer reports and CNET which simply told me every camera you buy under $600.00 will have some sort of flaw, whether it's not enough zoom, poor low light, image stabilizer issues or poor video quality. My only complaints with this camera are the image stabilizer and low light video capture which is not that great. Most cameras I read about had atleast one of these issues as well. In good lighting conditions or outside this is an incredible camera and picture. Very life like on my 62" HD. It does have a front ligth which works well in certain conditions although blinds people. The night mode "jogs" the picture and is completely useless unless nothing is moving. All and all this camera looks and feels expensive and appears to be put together very well. For under $500.00 I was hard pressed to find another camera of this quality. The 10x zoom is plenty and the zoom itself is smooth. If you can find another camera for this price and quality which produces better low light shooting and has a better image stabilizer, I would buy it. Good luck! I rate it at a 7.
