    "Great Deal" on by drumfish

    Pros: Features, Size, Widescreen

    Cons: Night Mode, Recording Time

Summary: So far I have had very few problems with this camcorder, its done what I expected it to do. The night mode is slow and the shutter speed makes the picture look bad.
I have read reviews about this camcorder some make me feel unsafe about it, but then its just a review.

It took me about half an hour to figure out most of the camcorders features.
It was a bit hard to understand how the tape input worked.

I hope I get many years outta this camcorder, and well be very displeased if it starts to fail after one year of canon support. As I find most Sony Products do to me.

I would at this time Recommend this camcorder

"This camera is broken more time than it works!" on by paulainkeylargo

    Pros: Lightwieght

    Cons: Several malfunctions

Summary: I was given this as a gift, I only wish I would have returned it before I used it! This camera stops working suddenly, it will not allow a tape to load it has been repaired but continues to malfunction. It currently has a motor surging noise and wiil not tape or play back anything. It just stops working and shuts off mysteriously, all around a waste of money. Canon now wants me to pay for repairs. Total waste of money.

"I really wanted to like this camcorder..." on by ebeamsales

Pros: Small size, good battery life, many features/special effects

Cons: Poor quality video, inaccurate color representation

Summary: We were given a Sony Hi8 camcorder for my wife's baby shower, but I ended up returning it to Best Buy because I had read that MiniDV was a higher quality format. Because the Sony camcorder we received came from Best Buy and we also had a gift card, our choices were pretty much limited to the selection that Best Buy had to offer. We were looking for a small, easy-to-use camcorder and I wanted at least a few cool features to spice up videos of our daughter. I am not a professional videographer, mind you, but I think that I am a step above the average Joe. We went with the ZR200 initially because the price was good and as far as I could tell, the quality of the video was OK, under Best Buy's well-lit showroom. I actually did research on Cnet about the ZR200 before we opened it and we returned it in favor of the ZR100 because we didn't need the digital camera feature or the remote, so we figured we'd save $50. But after using the ZR100 for a few months, the overall quality of the video is pixely, blocky, and the colors are too saturated. I realize the camera has an issue with low-light performance, but I filmed a lot of footage in out family room, which has very bright, recessed halogen lighting and the video is grainy, poor and low quality. I filmed a friend's wedding and turned off some features like image stabilization (this degrades video quality slightly) and used a tripod, but the quality didn't improve. All the special effects and the ease with which I can import the footage into my computer via FireWire is great. And the camera is small, it is easy to use. But when the quality of the overall video is of VHS quality, it is not worth it. I ended up doing more research and bought a used Panasonic PV-GS65 on eBay FOR THE SAME PRICE. The difference in quality is ASTOUNDING. Take it from me, DO NOT SKIMP on video quality to save a few bucks. There are plenty of low-budget camcorders out there that take excellent quality footage. But do your research first.

"Great camera for beginners" on by miller357

Pros: color and clarity, ease of use

Cons: overall design, button placement, battery life

Summary: the canon zr100 is a very, very good camera for beginners. it has a very up front menu setup. I personally do not car for the design of the frame, its too tall and too skinny. the controls for the VCR mode could be hidden behind the sreen like on its big brothers, the elura series. wide screen mode IS ACTUAL WIDESCREEN! not just streched out video. battery life absolutly sucks. it probably wont last the lenghth of a 60 min. tape. the veiwfinder does't flip up but it is very usful. its color and it saves a wole lotta battery. it does have manual focus, indoor/outdoor, nightmode and lowlight mode, and white balance. the lowlight is useful inside and the nightmode does make a difference outside, although it is a little choppy. uploading it onto your computer is rather smooth. works awsome with windows movie maker. a firewire is an absolute necessity but you can get one on amazon for $15.

Overall: great camera for beginners, Awsome picture, not best design, get a firwire
