Pros: Buy this thing!!

    Cons: amazed! Performance

Summary: How could cnet give this a 6.6?! I mean, the picture is like a print out, When I put it on my computer and saved it to DVI-AI I fell down and I was soo shocked I couldn't belive how re-markable this camera was! The sound quality is fantastic! The best Digital Camera would equal up to the quality of this.

Got one of these the other day after reading the bountiful good reviews.

My mic does not pick up any tape drive sounds... If you'd be unlucky enough to get one that does, simply then RETURN it for another one!

Someone mentioned tape loading from the bottom is an annoyance should you have it mounted onto a tripod. I dont have a tripod & I guess a lot of other users wouldnt either.

I find it a great dedicated camcorder pure and simple. With no pretense at offering stills functionality. Any dedicated digicam simply knocksthe spots off even the most expensive camcorder's effort at stills photos. It also means there are very few buttons & knobs to work it & that's a real bonus in my book!

In this day and age you'd be daft to buy any model that didnt do TRUE 16x9. I got the zr500 cos none of the Sony efforts I lookeed at did true 16x9! That's just nuts!

This will do me fine till Hi-Def camcorders drop to reasonable prices.

Only bugbear for me is that it does not have a thread to allow any kind of filter or additional lens attachments. I knew that before I bought it and concluded that its prolly for the best as I've now saved myself from spending a small fortune in lens accessories I'd ultimately seldom use! (the 16x9 is already exceptionally wide anyhoot!)
