"small yet feature rich" on by robertobiggio

Pros: good picture, compact design, sd card

    Cons: battery, short battery life

Summary: just purchased canon zr 600 $284 from dell.com, only used it to take some pictures. overall satisfied with this nice looking and 1lb light weight camcorder. it is easy to use with joy stick and all buttons are very responsive. the only problem is battery life is so short that it died within 1 hour just playing and taking still pictures, i don't know yet how long it is going to last when recording. i'm going to buy at least 2 batteries on ebay. ah, more $$$ spend on this thing. and luckily i already have a 512mb sd card.

    Updated
battery life is 2 hours exactly. i have a 512mb sandisk sd mini card. took 232 pictues and only used 70mb space. all info are true data from an actual user.
    Updated
the video and audio quality is excellent when recording. light is very good and sound is natural and volume is medium. record on sd card-used average 12mb space per minute on highest picture and sound setting. which means with 1gb sd card, can record up to 80 minutes max film. the extended battery can be bought on ebay--bp-522-4hours max life.
    Updated
the correct battery model number is BR-2L12 OR BP-2L14 FOR EXTENDED USE. THE ORIGINAL BATTERY COMES WITH CANON ZR600 IS BP-2L5. BATTERY CHARGER IS CB-2LT / CB-2LW. THIS INFO COMES FROM MANUAL BOOK.

"Great Camera for the Price" on by luv_intel

Pros: Easy to use, compact size, good video

Cons: Bad video in low light, no light

Summary: I would reccomend this camcorder for the beginner. It's easy to use and the size of it is great. All of the controls for recrording is at your fingertips. Video quality in low-light is not too good. If it had a light and better low-light video quality this would get a 10.

"Great for beginners, super easy to use" on by pmetzler

Pros: Super easy -- turn it on and record.
Records on Mini-DV, or short movies on S-Disk.
Show movies on TV, or download from SD to computer.
Records for more than an hour with large battery.
Use with screen or view finder.

Cons: Not for user seeking HD.
Had a hard time using it with tripod.

Summary: If you want easy, this is the camera. I bought it for ease of use, students and teaching staff at a school. I shot a movie of skit in dark gym, characters in spotlight, zoomed from 20 feet away. The sound was decent, every word understandable, no added lighting or microphone. It doesn't get any better than that for a new user.

"Absolutely awful product; please don't buy it!" on by MithrilFox

Pros: Small, easy to hold, good controls, nice LCD, built-in lens cover

Cons: Horribly loud tape motor records onto all video, image quality grainy

Summary: Please, please, please do NOT buy this camera! I was horribly disappointed by nearly every aspect of this thing. It has no mic-in, the battery is horrible, and the image is grainy. You need LOTS of light. That is, if you aren't shooting in excellent daylight, good luck getting it to look like anything but an old VHS tape that's corroded with copper.

Worst of all, and completely disabling, is the horrible ringing noise that records into every video. What is that, I thought to myself. It's the tape motor! It's a HUGE problem with the ZR series, just try searching for "zr600" and "motor noise" on Google.

I beg you: don't buy this. I was scammed into believing what Canon told me about it. The noise is so disabling that the video camera is completely and utterly worthless to me. I'm begging the internet store I bought it from to take it back, even if I pay a restocking fee.

My rating? Abysmal! 95% useless for everything I wanted to do with it. Grainy video, horribly loud motor records into tapes, short battery life, and no mic-in.

    Updated
I wanted to clarify that Canon told me the ringing sound from the motor recorded into every video is likely "within factory specifications;" that essentially boils down to a corporate euphemism for "tough luck, pal."

I filed a report with the Better Business Bureau about false advertising and the sale of an inferior product that cannot preform as specified; that's considered merchant fraud.
