"Good camera for average user"
Pros: Small, lightweight good video zoom. Easy to use.
Cons: Bad low light picture....VERY grainy. Viewfinder is useless.
Summary: Warning: I'm a very novice camcorder user...I needed a camcorder, and this was the best priced good camcorder. I played with some of the other canons ( the Eluras) but I didnt like the upright look and feel. This camera is very easy to use. I literally was recording as soon as it was delivered, but like the main review says, POOR in low light situation. Also, one thing that puzzled me was that it came with a pcu usb cable, but no sd memory card. Here I was thinking that this ( the usb cable) was how the video was going to be downloaded to the pc. Instead this was ONLY for the digital pictures. ( GUILTY ADMISSION: I didnt first read the manual, instead started using it
). It comes with some canon video software ( ok... if you dont have one already). The viewfinder does not move ( like I'm gonna look through that when I have a display screen) The toggle on the lcd screen is very cool, and easy to figure out. *note the toggle is a little rough, but does the job.
In conclusion, if you are in need of a camcorder and just need it to film the family, this is a good, easy and affordable camcorder.

The ZR700 is replacement for my old malfunctioning ZRs (2). Reason I purchased ZR700 was it appeared to have all the features of the old ZR and then some. However, I have not found a way to display the date-time info on captured video & still images. Canon says the only way I can get this data on still images is on printouts. I have yet to find how to display date-time on captured video. The old ZR remote had a 'data code' button which would accomplish this but the ZR 700 remote has none. Otherwise, the camera is a great cost effective replacement for the ZR.
