"Light, easy and smart design!" on by nielclark

Pros: Top loading mechanism is a smart update. Easy to use, with the help of the joystick located at the side of lcd. Generous detail on the design with chrome lining from the lens over the top with a holographing name of the model and the mini DV logo.

Cons: It does not have a LANC outpot for external control. Audio only from the audio and video output is not available. Lesser digital effects compared from the previous ZRs. Does not support still pictures on tape like what the the ZR45 or ZR50 had.

Summary: Generally this is just straight high quality product from Canon with the concept of being able to shoot videos without anything to fear! It is that simple to operate. They even had to use lesser amount of paper for its manual due to the simplicity of its functions. With an upgraded microchip and technology of their DIGIC DV, videos shoot using 16:9 mode at SP was definite life-like, probably almost high definition, as what I have observed in the few videos I made with it. It adjusted quickly on the lighting and revealed good fine details on objects having lines, dots, rough textures, curves, color and subject distinction. I did not expect it to be that clear since it was just supposed to be just an entry level but Canon wanted their customers to really enjoy their valued products, even if they were just looking at it. It is small compared to their previous models and became a little wider. It was very light to carry around even while holding it on one hand. This is good for recording long precious events without the help of tripod. With a good powerfull zoom with and option of advanced and digital zoom with the former at 41x without image degradation and the latter witn image degradation. The top loading mechanism mimics the way the pro camcorders load their miniDV tapes hence you can quickly change and reload without removing it when you have installed it on the tripod. Since is has a joystick and they have placed it on the side of the LCD panel, it is now a lot easier to make that dramatic maual focus without the camera shake or sound. It is so cute, light, very easy to use and yet still have some quite advance features. A very good camera for aspiring new moviemakers or documentaries or those who just simply want to record that summer vacation or an afternoon game who are on a tight budget yet still want to own that Canon video camcorder. I bought one and I am very happy using and looking at it!

"best used for those that due editing of their work" on by Recoveryone128

Pros: Fast start up and point and shoot, all controls are within reach of one hand. Top loading for a quick change out of tapes. Front mic is good within 20-30 feet.

Cons: Standard battery is only good for about 30-45 min

Summary: I have used this mini DV for about 4 years and it has brought nothing but great results. I have done several videos of my car, placing this camera mounted on the hood, out the window and did some inside shots while driving. Nothing is said if it had a anti shake mood, but this camera does not show hardly any. I do my own editing, so the tape (Mpeg) format works great and allows me to, to do all the magic on my PC. All the patch cables come with it to down load to your system (via USB) or you can use the older RCA cables. Picture quality is near HD and the size makes it easy to place it in tight areas. I would highly recommed this unit for those that do editting.
