"Great quality but has one major design flaw" on by mschiff1
Pros: Excellent video quality - I am really impressed the the vivid colors and the resolution.
Cons: If you pan too fast when filming, the video will jitter. Also, when you want play then entire movie you just shot strait off of the Slide while it is plugged into your tv, you have to hit play after every scene. There is no way to play all scenes.
Summary: In case you think I am wrong about not being able to play all scenes/videos off of the device when it is plugged into your tv (since I too thought this cannot possibly be true), here is a copy of the chat log from tech support:
from Kathrena C. (24616):
Hello Michael S.! Thank you for contacting Flip Video Support. How may I help you?
from Michael S.:
I have my Flip SlideHD plugged into my TV using the HDMI output. How do I watch ALL videos on the slide? I have to hit play after each video. I want to just play them all from 1 to 50. I know that when it is not plugged into HDMI, I can press and hold the play button when it is in ?Record Mode? to watch them all on the flip, but that is not an option when it is connected to the TV with the HDMI cable.
from Kathrena C. (24616):
I see. All you have to do with that Michael is to give a long press to the Play button while the cam is plugged in to the TV.
from Michael S.:
the only way I know how to play a video when it is plugged in is to tap the thumbnail of the video. Where is there a play icon? Seems like the play icon (arrow) only appears when it is in ?Record Mode? , and this mode cannot be accessed when its plugged into the tv.
from Kathrena C. (24616):
I mean, the play button of the cam while it is in Record Mode.
from Michael S.:
I understand that is what you mean, however, there is no way to access that "record mode" when it is plugged into the tv with the HDMI cable. All it says on the screen is ?HDMI Connected?.
Once plugged into the tv with the HDMI, when you turn it on with the slide shut (record mode) it has a message on the screen that says HDMI Connected.
from Kathrena C. (24616):
Is the cam currently connected to the HDTV?
from Michael S.:
YES
from Kathrena C. (24616):
Is it also currently in Record Mode?
from Michael S.:
NO. I don't know how you can put it in record mode when it is connected to the tv. Once it senses that it is connected to the tv, the record mode option cannot be accessed from what I can tell.
from Kathrena C. (24616):
I'm sorry about that, Record Mode is when the cam is not wide open.
from Michael S.:
are you reading anything I am typing?
from Kathrena C. (24616):
Yes. I do.
from Michael S.:
three times I have said that I understand what record mode is, BUT YOU CANNOT ACCESS THAT MODE WHEN IT IS PLUGGED INTO THE TV.
from Kathrena C. (24616):
Thank you. I'm sorry if I needed to verify if we were on the same page.
from Michael S.:
can you tell me how I can access record mode when it is plugged into the tv. The only thing I see on the screen when the cam is shut when it is connected to the tv is a message that says "HDMI CONNECTED".
from Kathrena C. (24616):
You are right Michael we navigate the TV controls while the cam is in Widescreen Mode. However, the Play all feature of the cam will only work in Record mode.
from Michael S.:
so you are saying there is no way to play all of the videos on the tv?
from Kathrena C. (24616):
Let me check if there is anything we can do to that, Michael.
from Kathrena C. (24616):
Please hold on for a minute. Let me check our record.
from Michael S.:
That would be the lamest thing I have ever heard. When people record movies on a regular camcorder, they can watch the entire tape back on their tv without having to hit play after every scene. There has got to be a mistake. There is no way Flip would make such a mistake to make it so you cannot watch the entire movie (all scenes) from beginning to end on your tv. That means I have to stand near my tv the entire time holding the unit since the HDMI cord is not very long.
from Kathrena C. (24616):
Thank you for patiently waiting, Michael. I do apologize for the delay. I understand. That is correct. However, as far as I know, we can only play all the videos while it is in Record Mode.
from Kathrena C. (24616):
Let me refer this to my immediate superior. Please hold on for another minute or two.
from Kathrena C. (24616):
Thank you for holding, Michael. I believe this is only how the cam was designed but I can forward this to our higher management. This will be a very big help.
from Michael S.:
Please do. Horrible design if this was actually planned and designed like this. Why on earth would they design it so you cannot play all your scenes on your tv. Some of my videos/scenes are only 5 seconds long. Do you have any idea how many times I have to hit play to watch a movie from the first scene to the last scene of the movie??? -
"Excelent camcorder to take anywhere." on by KKLRMan
Pros: Easy to operate, very good quality videos, strong tripod mount, USB connector, fairly good editing software, videos are easy to share with your friends, light weight, small size and excelent memory capacity and battery life.
Cons: Expensive. Larger viewing/sliding LCD display is not that impressive and it does not contribute to any additional value to the camcorder. The 2X zoom in inadequate.
Summary: Portability, weight/size, video quality, available memory and battery live are the attributes for the Flip/Slider. The additional LCD display for viewing does not justify the camera price. Despite of its price tag, the Flip/Slider is a great companion camera to take it anywhere you go. I love it.
