"Junk, Junk, Junk"
on by RLSVenturesPros Great Picture
Cons I just bought this camera 2 weeks ago. Everything except the main power has become unresponsive. There is no quick way to reset, and customer service told me that it won't work well with my Mac, and to try recharging with a PC - which I don't have!
Summary I am very disappointed with this product and customer support. I was told that to reset (to see if that will do the job, I need to remove the battery for two days - two days! I had to explain three times that I had an AC adaptor before she would understand that I had an alternative to charging through my Mac. I bought this for a particular event, and now I feel as if I have wasted my money. Stay away from Flip!

"Pretty Good"
on by seven_fanPros Simple, easy to use and the quality is good.
Cons Missing some features that would be nice like a memory slot, and jack for ear buds. The fact that the HDMI cable isn't included is somewhat annoying also. The fact that it doesn't come with the A/C wall adapter is inexcusable.
Summary I just got this last night, so haven't had a chance to spend a lot of time with it yet. However, the simplicity of the Flip is the thing I like about it most. I don't think it's meant as a replacement for bigger, more sophisticated HD Video cameras, but as a point and shoot device - it's pretty good.
In my opinion, they should have made the memory slot accessible, however, so that if you run out of space, you could easily switch to a new card, or insert a larger capacity one.
Also, if this had a jack for ear buds, it would be an ideal device for HD movies on a plane, so you don't have to break out the laptop.
One nice feature is that if you need to switch from your battery pack to AAs, they work just fine.
Overall, good job, a few missing pieces keep the Flip from being truly outstanding. -

"Worked great for 7 months then intermittent problems"
on by maxhouse55Pros I loved my Flip Ultra for the first 7 months. It shot excellent quality videos and even obtained good audio when sitting at a concert.
Cons I had numerous problems after about 7 months with my Flip Ultra HD
(see below)Summary All of the sudden the power problems began and worst of all they were intermittent. On and off symptoms included:
1. Battery pack died and came back to life. Took a charge but then died almost immediately after charging with no button response. I had to remove the battery to get it back on.
2. I gave up on the Flip rechargeable and started using rechargeable AA Eveready batteries. It worked fine for a couple weeks until the power problems returned. I went online with Flip support and he told me to reset the camera by holding the power button in for 10 seconds. It worked fine after that until the following morning when the problems returned.
3. While shooting the video would sometimes freeze and the whole camera froze so that I had to remove the battery to reset it. Now this problem could not be solved by keeping a spare set of charged batteries in my pocket. I think I paid about $149 for the camcorder in March of 2010 and here in October 2010 it is failing daily. That's it for me - NO MORE FLIPS for me.
