"Good idea, short lifespan"
1.5 starson by jbherri2Pros: Small design, idiot-proof usage
Cons: Battery is DEAD. Overheats when charging. Poor warranty.
Summary: We bought a Flip HD in December, 2009. Now, in May 2010, it's dead. Well, not quite dead, but the OEM battery pack will not charge. I've tried after-market rechargable batteries, and they don't work either. The camera basically "eats" batteries. The technical support provided by Pure Digital is not very encouraging. It's a same, really. The camera fits nicely in your hand, and it's fool-proof in its usage. However, poor quality...whether the batteries or the internal charging system...leads me to believe there is a better camera out there somewhere.

I am almost out of patience with this camera and this company. I bought a new one in March that had some glitches...power button, battery pack. After hours on phone with tech. support...very nice people who tried very hard to solvemy problem, but I worry that the Flip's problems can't be fixed. I finally got authorization to return my camera, which I did at the end of June. I received a refurbished one yesterday. It has been charging for almost seven hours and the red light is still on. The booklet that comes withth camera does not a good job explaining or showing battery status or charging progress. I am very disappointed. The Flip got rave reviews in my ed. tech. journals when it first came out. I don't know what experiences people have had since. I just know I am about ready to throw this thing at a wall! And I have only felt that way once before in my 60 plus years. I want so much for it to work!!!
