"Great Basic Camera!" on by Guillermo_Maxwell

Pros: + Svelte, easy to carry and handle, outside black soft touch material very nice
+ Good to very good video quality
+ SO easy to use and hook up to another device for viewing the results.
+ 60 fps great for outdoors/good light shooting

Cons: - No ability to focus
    - Not great in low light due to 60fps recording

Summary: This Flip UltraHD camcorder is even more impressive than the last one. As usual with Flips, it's the ideal thing for any family hoping to videotape the kids, friends, events, etc. First of all, it's completely idiot proof: when you get the box, there is absolutely no assembly required. Your first guess about which buttons are the power switch, record button, and USB connector release will be correct; great intuitive design. The device looks and feels great (as other reviewers have mentioned) and easily fits in your hand comfortably for long periods of time (unlike my blackberry). It is a bit larger than the last one, which helps it fit snugly in the hand, though it takes a little bit more space in your pocket. It turns on and off instantly (unlike my home computer or cell phone) so you don't have to wait long to start recording that precious, fleeting moment.

The screen is large and the HD video is amazing on big-screen playback. The new 60 frames per second is noticeably better, and pretty much as smooth as you'll ever need. (Frames change twice as fast as than the eye can see, so it seems super-smooth to the human eye -- I did a bit of research!) Image quality continues to be excellent, and not too shaky/bouncy. The new image stabilization seems to remove some vibrations (like when videotaping a baby laughing in a driving car) but I didn't notice a major difference indoors since it can't remove the effects of the larger hand tilting movements (caused by my running around stepping on toys while following the baby around). The USB connector is a bit different, on the side instead of the top, which makes it easier to connect to a laptop.

Otherwise it's the same: convenient, easy to connect, and you don't have to go running to find any special USB connector cable (like my old digital camera). The audio is still good, picking up faint background sounds that I hadn't even noticed at the time of recording and picking up simultaneous music and voices with great quality. The 2-hour battery life is more than I ever use, so it's great. There is a new battery pack (very easy to install if you've ever had a cell phone), but it doesn't seem to change anything for better or worse.

The Flip Video software continues to set the standard. It is ridiculously easy to setup, automatically starts when I plug in the camcorder, and makes it completely obvious how to download the videos, play back, freeze frames to make photos, and share. And it's fast-- not much waiting for videos to load up (like other video players). It's all in an easy-to-use, well-organized (by video date) layout very similar to the iPod control panel. I wish all software was this easy to use.

I highly recommend this device-- it's the most impressive Flip yet, and well worth the investment.

"UltraHD VS MinoHD" on by Cadssdac

    Pros: # Easy-to-use, pocket-sized HD camcorder featuring.

    # one-touch recording and digital zoom

    # Simple user interface lets you start capturing HD video just seconds after powering on

    Cons: I think don't have

Summary: If you are trying to decide which one to purchase, if maximum portability is important to you than the MinoHD is the better choice. Otherwise, if you're looking compact camcorder with more features (HDMI output, replaceable batteries, longer record time) then you can't go wrong with the UltraHD.

"the perfect flash memory camcorder" on by engk916

Pros: enough heft so it feels substantial, small enough to be completely portable

Cons: fat like my old blackberry

Summary: this is the perfect camcorder for our family. we have 3 young kids and are always on the go, and we more often have our cell phones than our camcorder. not any more - the flip ultra is the perfect camcorder for recording those fleeting moments that really characterize our kids, yet has enough memory to go through a soccer game. low light conditions are completely acceptable, but obviously not as amazing as a real camcorder with built in lighting. still, to have a camcorder handy at all times more than makes up for the relatively few times we would be recording in the evenings. i love how there's a built-in mini-hdmi slot. based on previous reviews on sites like cnet and gizmodo, i was expecting a huge amount of shakiness due to the lack of stabilization, but i didn't find the video any worse than the clips i took with our old point n'shoot. like any camcorder, it's better to move the camcorder a hair slower than you ordinarily would. so long as you keep that in mind, this flip ultra hd is the ultimate pocket cam!

"Flip Ultra Series 2GB Camera Volume Control" on by ilhiker

Pros: I have a Flip Camera and am very pleased with the video it captures, even when used with a projector in my classroom.

Cons: Unfortunately, the audio component of the device is terrible. The on-screen volume indicator shows that the volume is up to its highest level, but it picks up very little sound. There is no other setting that I can find for the volume. :(

Summary: I think the device itself is easy to use, although the record button doesn't respond as nicely as it should. Sometimes I have to press it several times to get it to work and stop the recording. Even when connected to a projector and a computer with good speakers, the sound quality is not good at all. It might as well be considered a silent movie. I have checked everywhere in the instructions and on the Net, and all I am finding is that there is no way to adjust the volume other than the on-screen control. If anyone can offer a solution, I'd love it. It is still the favorite "toy" in my classroom...it actually gets kids to read and act out scenes...in a middle school...the age group the doesn't normally want to do that. Thanks for the opportunity to share my thoughts.

"Good idea, short lifespan" on by jbherri2

    Pros: Small design, idiot-proof usage

Cons: Battery is DEAD. Overheats when charging. Poor warranty.

Summary: We bought a Flip HD in December, 2009. Now, in May 2010, it's dead. Well, not quite dead, but the OEM battery pack will not charge. I've tried after-market rechargable batteries, and they don't work either. The camera basically "eats" batteries. The technical support provided by Pure Digital is not very encouraging. It's a same, really. The camera fits nicely in your hand, and it's fool-proof in its usage. However, poor quality...whether the batteries or the internal charging system...leads me to believe there is a better camera out there somewhere.
