"The camera is great for shooting outdoors, however its picture indoors is very disappointing." on by srugg
Pros: Outdoor quality is great, powerfull zoom, and easy to use features. Software was decent and asy to use.
Cons: Poor Quality for indoors, the built in light is not powerfull enough. JVC should have made a shoe for a light or other .
Summary: Overall this camera did not perform as one would expect. I bought this at Costco for a family vacation. The price met my budget and I thought this would be a great camera for family trips, events and soccer games etc… At first I was very impressed with the camera: 30GB HD, no discs or tapes and 32x zoom that is better than any other product.
When I got home and viewed the video I was disappointed with the indoor quality. You could not see anything even with the light on.. I had filmed the kids in the house with all the lights on in the room and the picture was still exceptionally dark. When in the store (under fluorescent lights) the cameras quality appears to be acceptable. The specifications do not show lux capability as I would presume the camera to have 2-3 lux after looking at the quality. The lower the lux the better, 0 lux is the optimal.
It was then that I decided to return the product. I burned the video to a DVD using the included software which was easy to use and not as bad as some make it out to be. When I viewed the DVD the picture was much better than when I viewed it directly from the camera.
JVC has a great product but didn’t add the final touches. It needs a better lens or added shoe for an external light source. Outdoors the camera is excellent however, it is not as good as the Sony. In short I would not recommend this camera for those who are looking to use this both indoors and outdoors. I would spend and extra $100.00 and buy the Sony DCR-SR60 as the picture quality is much better. -
"Great features, poor video quality" on by tom6200
Pros: Hard drive is a wonderful storage medium. Controls are easy to use. Compact size is great.
Cons: Poor video quality
Summary: I read the other reviews before I bought this camera and ignored the complaints regarding video quality because I strongly desired a camera with hard-drive storage. Now, I wish I had paid more attention to the warnings because the video quality is really pathetic. I would return this camera if I could.

"Love this tapeless Camcorder" on by tnoice
Pros: TAPELESS!!!!! and almost 40 hours of recording
Cons: Lower than expected video quality.
Summary: I really enjoy this camcorder because of the fact that it is completely tapeless however you can not bump it while it is recording or you might recieve a recording error. The quality was ok, the still pitcure quality was just not there, but that is ok because if you want a still picture, buy a camera. Overall I really like this machine and we purchased the direct dubbing dvd drive option. That works well aswell although it is not compatible with all dvd players.
