"Much better than most reviews suggest.."
Pros: Compact, comfortable, fast power-on, easy to use, fast file transfer to PC, widescreen mpeg2.
Cons: Video quality is not perfect, battery life is ok at around 70 mins.
Summary: I have been using my mg37 for over a week now, and must say that it is honestly much better than most will admit. For 3rd party video editing, adobe premiere elements 2.0 has NO problem opening it's native .mod files whatsoever, and if you have a problem with widescreen, make sure to 'interpret' the files as dv/dv1 wide... The video quality is about what I expected, pretty decent, especially in good light, and a bit noisy in low light. I've logged about 3 hours now, from documentary style footage, interviews, beach sunsets, action, indoors and outdoors, and have to say I expected much, much worse video. I am a tech freak myself, and would have loved to go straight to high def, but for twice the price it just wasnt worth it to me. I have shot exclusively in 16:9, made 3 dvd's, and am really only disappointed or distracted by noise or artifacts if I am sitting 1 foot (literally) away from my widescreen HDTV. I didnt expect any groundbreaking video quality, just good enough, in which case, this camera IS (good enough). I DID expect a quality finish, appearance, build, function, speed, accessibility, and ease of use, and it excels in all of those areas. No tapes, no mini dvd's, and for me, it's perfect.
