Pros lightweight, easy to use and takes relatively good video for the price
Cons Wasted two hours trying to copy the disk data to a dvd that would play on ANY of our upconvert or standard dvd players. Checked with vista help line and it's not our new computer. Plays wonderfully on the computer but no go on the dvd players
Summary be very wary of these lower end camcorders, not as easy and one step as they lead you to believe. And forget the photo capability, it's awful. Piecing together the little clips is also laborious and time wasting and that's IF your computer has the proper editing software. JVC I have always loved but not so much with this little gem.
Pros Zoom, Battery life, Style
Cons Light doesn't do much at night
Summary I bought the Panasonic SDR-S7 before this one, the only thing better on the panasonic is the size. This JVC eats the SDR-S7 for breakfast, The stability control and ZOOM are amazing, it haves 800x and it really works search on utube for a review I made about the zoom, the highest res will give around 2 hr of recoding on a 8GB SD card, and over 10hr on 320x240 resolution, even in low res mode you get sharp video but smaller. Once again Zoom is very nice.
Pros Light weight, lighting can be set to automatic, easy to zoom and swap between photo/ video mode, good quality-price ratio
Cons Not relying on its ability to record in the dark
Summary I would like to mention, first of all, that my review will be about very practical things and not technical descriptions.
I've had this video camera for about four years and I am very pleased with it. I have recorded special events, projects bits and pieces, vacation experiences, and it does its job very well. I've never used the direct youtube upload option because I always edit the videos first. You CAN edit the videos (and keep the sound, of course) even if the extension is ".mod".
I also use this camera a lot to take pictures because the photos are good for a 640x480 resolution, and with a little touch-up in a simple program the colors can really pop (you can even receive compliments). You can take many and diverse pictures for work or school because they occupy very little memory (I've done this in my practice period when I collected photos on construction sites; since I only had to add them in my practice notebook, the resolution didn't need to be high. They were good collage materials too).
I believe that no matter what device you have, it's up to you to use it to its full potential.
Pros I like this product very much. Comfy to handle and easy to use. The picture is very clear and light decent enough.
Cons MOD format is very inconvenient to be and since I am a Mac user the Youtube button doesn't do ****.
Summary I really enjoy recording on this camera, whether it's for a short movie, family vacation or vlogs. The light is decent enough and it handles really well.
Note that I am no expert, and if you aren't one you will probably really like this device
What i don't like about the Everio MS100 is the software and drivers. I am running it on a MAC OS X, with a lot of difficulties. The Youtube button is useless to me, I don't seemt to be able to stream video into my computer* (and record directly into software) and working with .MOD is a pain in the *!?^!
The user interface sucks, that laser scroller thing is annoying and options are limited. I am still trying to fix the problems, which are all software-related. If you get the chance of buying a camera with the same stats and price I do highly recommend you do, but if you are on a Mac or want to capture directly onto your computer*, find something else!
If you are not a technical person, thinking about software and drivers and that kind of stuff, and just want a simple corder
*Why stream video directly into my computer? - you ask? I have a mic that I connect to the computer and when vlogging video/audio syncing is difficult. Best would be if I could have the Everio as my video input, and mic as audio input. I am also working with stopmotion-animation, and I NEED to be able to connect the camcorder to the appropriate software to do so.
"Horrible software"on by 10isdad
Pros Camera is decent enough. Quality's good enough for the price.
Cons The Cyberlink Powercinema NE software is horrible. The one-tough YouTube upload doesn't work. The software doesn't support the file type to burn to DVD. There's an update, but when installed, the program won't even open. Useless software.
Summary There's a reason why JVC switched to a different software for the newer model of this camera. Powercinema NE is just plain awful.
