"Highly recommended!!!"
Pros: Surprising image quality for the price. Low light performance. Availability of higher capacity battery packs
Cons: Sometimes blue edge/aura around white objects. Audio sensitive to wind. Manual functions difficult to use. No accessory connections.
Summary: This camera is made for those that just want to point and shoot decent quality video, and don't want to break the bank.
I gave it an 8 because I think it performs excellent for its price class.
This is my first camcorder and I'm very happy with it. I feel the video quality is excellent for the price I paid. I hesitated between the Elura 100 and this camcorder but chose the GR-D650, in part because it accepts higher capacity battery packs and was supposed to perform better in low light. From the JVC D-series camcorders I chose this one because of the higher megapixels and the larger lens.
Since it has 15x zoom you will need at least a wide angle lens for indoors, and maybe also a tele. Although it has higher resolution, digital zoom still gives terrible results (disable it).
One thing I noticed is that sometimes you get a blue shine on the edge of white objects under strong light. Normally it renders white and colors very good though.
Also I find the manual settings too cumbersome to use. If you like to have manual control you will need to go to a more expensive camcorder.
Like the previous reviewer I also noticed that stills quality indoors is not very good. On the other hand I find indoors video quite good though. For high quality pics indoors you simply need a camera with a flash. If you stand real close the LED may help a bit but it's not enough. In daylight pics are very good. I actually don't use the stills capability at all. The memory card seems to somewhat slow down the camcorder starting up, so I don't even put a card in. Could be the cheap and large capacity card I was using ...

I agree completely. Any suggestions on a wide angle lens and where to shop?
