"I LOVE this camera!"
on by LindzKPros I love the video quality. For the price, it's amazing! The camera includes both composite & HDMI cables which is a great value. More features than Flip, you can upgrade the memory, film in 1080, 720, or VGA AND you can snap photos!
Cons Firmware upgrade 1.03 to 1.05 right away. W/o upgrade image is shaky, mic stinks, & won't support 32MB SD. On Mac upgrade is tedious. Tech support is LOUSY. Once you get it upgraded, included software still won't work with Mac. iMovie workarounds.
Summary GREAT image quality after upgrading the firmware. Amazing features for the price. Better video quality than the Flip. Good sound after firmware upgrade. Expand memory via SD all the way up to 32MB. Works with Wifi SD cards. Comes with both composite and HDMI cables. Plugs straight into TV/Projector. Let's you film in 1080p, 720p @ 30 OR 60 frames per second, or VGA to save space. Allows you to take photos from the camera and not just by "screen capture" via software as in the case of the Flip. Software on PC is great but doesn't work with Macs.
I love this camera! Can't beat it for the price! -
"Bang for Bucks."
on by gururampPros Record, transfer and play on both computer and TV (HD and non HD with included cables).
No need of video converters.
GREAT Video Clarity even in the lowest possible mode.Cons Would have loved a conventional design as it gives more stability (video) rather than this PHONE style design which shakes a bit.
Had to buy a CLASS 6 8GB SDHC card as inbuilt memory on Zi8 is a joke.
Zoom is patchy and could be improved.Summary This is best for a newbie, casual videographers and for those who don't want to fiddle around with Video Converters.
For it records in .MOV format rather than AVCHD (Sony, Canon.. which takes ages to convert and write to a DVD).
The video quality is good in all the modes. -
"Do NOT buy from Kodak online"
on by jvrana2Pros It looks cool and people like to look at it.
Cons Kodak does not stand behind its products. I bought the Zi8 in November to take on a cruise. When I got home none of the photos came out. I started using it just for videos, then some of the videos did not come out. Then it died completely in March.
Summary Kodak does not stand behind its products. I bought the Zi8 in November to take on a cruise. When I got home none of the photos came out. I started using it just for videos, then some of the videos did not come out. Then it died completely in March. I had to mail it to them at my expense. 2 weeks later it came back and still will not come on. They refuse to give me a refund, even though support told me to take it back to the store to get a refund. I bought it from kodak.com and they refuse to give a refund, claiming that they only do that for 30 days. So if your camera breaks after 30 days, you are screwed.

"don't love quality of image"
on by mmycoskiePros easy to use as advertised
Cons no focus ability; doesn't do well in low light.
Summary maybe i'm doing something wrong. in medium indoor light if i zoom in the image gets very grainy. in lower light the screen gets darker when i zoom in and replay shows same thing. i've not used it outdoors yet. maybe the resolution will be better. overall grainy image not really acceptable. shooting in 720. any suggestions?
