I dont know what type of lighting conditions you are acceptable for shooting in, but this camera does better than my xl1 l2 or various other dv cameras i own or use. It does not beat sony's night shooting.. but it is a better camera (brand loyalty and disgust for sony's proprietary systems). It is all but the same as the 500 and the 600 is the reasonable upgrade adding a few thousand handfulls of extra pixels.. and the 300 an equal downgrade.
Canon has answered the low lux shooting question... i read somewhere.. you can probably find it.. that they are not willing to compromise price or quality for low lux shooting (unlike sony). Most people understand that their eyes work better than the camera's and that you cant use a flash when videoing.
Its a camera.. if your point and shoot camera would flash.. your video will be grainy.. period.. its not a problem with the camera.. all of them will work in approximately the same lux.
