"80% of the DVX100 at less than half the cost"
on by nerdninjaPros Great optics, huge viewfinder, film gamma mode, BUILD QUALITY!
Cons No true 16:9, no iris ring (but there is manual control)
Summary If you are looking for the quality of the DVX100 but are on too tight of a budget, this is the camera for you. The image quality rivals its big brother at a fraction of the price.
Nice low-light performance, full manual control (even though there is no iris ring, the iris can be manually controlled easily through a wheel on the side) and the included detachable handle give pro shooters all of the creativity they need.
The build quality is impressive. The body is metal construction and feels substantial.
This camera features a "faux 24p" mode (actually 30 fps, field doubled to look like progressive scan. Less resolution than true 24p but nice looking nonetheless!) that includes DVX-like film gamma to make the video look much like film.
My first one had a hot pixel out of the box. I called Panasonic and they were truely horrified to find out something got past their quality control. B&H (the store where I purchased it) sent me a new one overnight no questions asked.
I am becomming a big Panasonic camera fan. If you're looking for a high-end hobby/entry level professional camera, this is the one to get! I was considering a Canon, but the buikd quality sold me on the Panny. -
"Really good camcorder but..."
on by elcalvoPros more pro features than the others magnesium body ir nigth shoot
Cons bad handle desing no controls in it,no manual for the audio control the mic it's to close from the body
Summary I own this cam for a wile now and the look it's grate, the feeling it's great, the lcd size it's awesome, picture quality exellent,in the dark it's not that good so if you are a nigth filmaker choose the sony vx-2100 perform beter in the nigth.
all the butons are made out of ruber to minimise noise so when you press them they are silents, that's great. I mean not like the sony vx-2100 that had sliding buttons they produse anoying souns when you usethem during the recording procces, the zoom ring its grat grippie and with a nice damping, the only thing that I don't like about this camcorder it's the handle desing it's unconftable and you don't have acces to any control like zoom or start stop well they did one start stop buton over the lent but it's uncofortable to reach and when you press it the cam moves sideways so it's useless in the other hand sony and canon had plenity of controlls on he handle and with rigth because on this size of camcorders you are going to use the handle all the time, the ergos on the camcorder aren't that good it's a little bit uncomfortable and the mic it's to close from the lent so if you are pickie with the soun you're goin to find unwanted souns from the motor zoom etc .ok now you now what now without paying 2500$ so from now and on it's your dessecion -
"Best Camcorder for the $$$"
onPros Really great picture. This camera is best I've used so far. I've heard some people complain about the movie-look mode as unuseable. Don't beleive them, it looks great. No, it doesn't look like film but it does give a warmer feel to your scenes. The colors
Cons The manual could be clearer. After that complaint there isn't much else. The camcorder feels really sturdy.

"move on up to a great prosumer camcorder."
onPros Great video from 1/4" CCD's. Quality construction, loaded with prosumer features.
Cons No zoom ring, not enough OEM supplied accessories (anamorphic lens, etc.)

"Excellent... if you use manual mode..."
on by ynlPros Good colors, good sensitivity
Cons Auto white balance may be better
Summary Excellent camera - if you are using it in manual mode, especially indoors. Auto white balance is not good enough - for me at least.
