    "Ignore all others..." on

Pros: No other camera, not even the new Sony HDV cameras have the gamma curve that this camera has. What does that mean? Everything. This camera looks like film. Period. Professionals have a hard time telling the difference. In 24 fps mode (why would you

Cons: Audio is too sensitive, use an outboard mixer for serious work. Easy to bump the cine-switch, tape it. 30fps shooting looks ordinary.

    "All around awesome camera" on

Pros: This camera is sweet! Great picture, 24p look blows every other camera (including XL1) out of the water. Not too bulky, so it's managable to carry around. If you have the extra money, get it - it's worth it to upgrade from a gl2 or whatever. With this cam

Cons: Not true 16:9. Takes a little learning to get the controls down, but once you do it's perfect for fine tuning.

    "Nice!!!" on

Pros: Film-like 24p images; Produces professional, cable quality images (when used in well lit conditions only); Stereo sound; Time lapse feature; Cine-like picture tones; Surprisingly good battery life.

Cons: Image quality not too good in low light; A bit of a learning curve; Pricey.

"Who could ask for more?" on by in_okc

Pros: Unbelievable control over every desirable aspect of the camera!

Cons: Not good for a first camera. Earn your way to this one!

Summary: This dude is not for the first-timer into videography. I've worked in broadcast and it's clear that the combination of features and nomenclature on this camera came from pros that know what you need to do top notch production work.

If you're looking for a high-end, run-n-gun, this may not be the choice. But for a device that can produce phenominal results with some time to setup a shot, this is your weapon of choice.

Barry's DVX Book is a must. And once you get into the details of how each setting affects the picture, you'll grin from ear-to-ear with the results.

The only negative comments I have so far relate to the battery life (splurge and get a couple of 5400s mah) and the case.

When I first opened the box, I sank as I pulled out the DVX box that only weighed a few pounds. Being used to ENG/EFP gear that weighs a ton and has a shoulder mount, I was expecting something with a little more substance. But once you realize they were trying to lighten the load, it begins to make sense.

I would rather trade a little metal on the camera for more usable features anyday. Besides, with some general TLC, this unit should last for a while. If you're looking for a rugged go-anywhere, knock around cam., then keep looking. It should be treated as any other delicate gear.

Overall it gets a 10 from me anyday. And since HD is still unsetteled, I have no problem shooting 4:3 for a few more years.

P.S. Don't buy gray market. Use someone like B&H. They are authorized resellers and you will qualify for the rebate and get the Magic Bullet, book, dvd, other goodies, etc.

"Much better than the XL2" on by giowillis

Pros: Ease of use, spectacular colour and definiion, easy to handle

    Cons: no native 16/9

Summary: I am using both the Canon XL2 and this product and I must say that this is definitely superior. It has also a definitely lower price. Excellent for shooting 25p frame, cine mode.
What I found really superb is the colours as well as the contrast.
Another advantage is the ease of use. It is definitely small and easy to handle. Finally a professional DV camera with a relatively low price.
