"Who could ask for more?"
Pros: Unbelievable control over every desirable aspect of the camera!
Cons: Not good for a first camera. Earn your way to this one!
Summary: This dude is not for the first-timer into videography. I've worked in broadcast and it's clear that the combination of features and nomenclature on this camera came from pros that know what you need to do top notch production work.
If you're looking for a high-end, run-n-gun, this may not be the choice. But for a device that can produce phenominal results with some time to setup a shot, this is your weapon of choice.
Barry's DVX Book is a must. And once you get into the details of how each setting affects the picture, you'll grin from ear-to-ear with the results.
The only negative comments I have so far relate to the battery life (splurge and get a couple of 5400s mah) and the case.
When I first opened the box, I sank as I pulled out the DVX box that only weighed a few pounds. Being used to ENG/EFP gear that weighs a ton and has a shoulder mount, I was expecting something with a little more substance. But once you realize they were trying to lighten the load, it begins to make sense.
I would rather trade a little metal on the camera for more usable features anyday. Besides, with some general TLC, this unit should last for a while. If you're looking for a rugged go-anywhere, knock around cam., then keep looking. It should be treated as any other delicate gear.
Overall it gets a 10 from me anyday. And since HD is still unsetteled, I have no problem shooting 4:3 for a few more years.
P.S. Don't buy gray market. Use someone like B&H. They are authorized resellers and you will qualify for the rebate and get the Magic Bullet, book, dvd, other goodies, etc.
