"A Gread AVCHD Cam." on by jepz422864

Pros: Excellent HD videos, Good 2.1mp still shot, smooth zoom function, and excellent sound

Cons: Supplied Software, Have to remove Battery to connect to HDMI or download videos direct to PC

Summary: Most reviews put a negative on the SD9. But it does what it was advertised- shoot sharp AVCHD quality video. Even at the next resolution level, the videos were sharp. The 3 CCD's do really work!

As to still photos, CNET was wrong in saying its awful. Remember that this Panny only takes 2.1 megapixel shots. And will not compete with current high megapixel digital cameras. Always remember to lower the flash brightness as it can overpower your still shot.

The cam may not be the smallest in the market but it is a joy to use. It's light weight enables steady video shooting. The zoom function from wide to telephoto was smooth as silk. And the OIS really works! You will be amazed by the sound quality recorded by the video cam. Its crystal clear.

I have only 3 complaints- First, the supplied software is inadequate for video editing. Panny should have provided a special edition of Pinnacle Software for free. Second, you have to use the A/C adaptor to load videos to your PC. That requires you to remove the battery pack. Third, to view HDMI videos via HDMI cable, you have to remove the battery pack. The HDMI plug is located beside the A/C plug.

Overall, I rate this cam 8/10.

"Great HD camera for the price" on by TOMZEEJ

Pros: Great video, good colours, small, compact, easy to use, reasonably sound

Cons: Transferring videos and images to your PC requires you to remove the battery and use all of the cords supplied, photo quality isn't that good, poor low light, the nagivator is annoying to use

Summary: Basically, this is a great video camera for the price, if you can, i would highly recommend it if you are using it for a for everyday use

"for the price easy to use with good results" on by ted-mark

Pros: when I bought the kit HDC-SD9-kit it came with SDHC card 16mb, DVD burner and all cables for less than the price states here.

Cons: setup fiddly, use the remote control, works best with Panasonic DVD Player or home theatre issues with format and discs with other brands, to download files to laptop you tend to have a mess of cables, unable to play back from laptop using supplied sw

Summary: for the newbie (me) fairly easy to get your headaround, download a codec file Community Codecs so you can play the .mts files, software has it;s limitation, for under $200 AU look at Corel/Unlead for more creativity, Adobe if $$$'s permit, find no problem on Intel Core 4 9950 processor but laptop is core2 celeron and sluggish, great start off and intro future might be a Cannon MK5 the results of which can be seen on Vimeo by contibutors.

"Awesome HD camcorder for the price!" on by dpg4macman

Pros: Small, OIS works great. Outstanding video and audio quality for a consumer HD video camera. Very nice still pictures.

Cons: Auto white balance in low light will sometimes go from cool to warm but once you learn the camera this is really not much of an issue. I really have no complaints except I wish they would have packaged it with an SDHC card.

Summary: For the money (I Paid $399.00 at Sears - Floor demo) you will not find a better HD video camera. I have been using this for home video use for over two months without any problems. The video uploads into iMovie (on Mac) and is exceptional quality. I highly recommend this camera.
