Pros Crisp, Clear Video. Easy to Use. Simple but functional Menu system. Immage Stabilization is incredible,
Cons Get a spare battery. Factory battery will only last you in recording time about 50 minutes.
Summary The Panansonic TM-700 HD Video camera is an awesome camera. The video quality and detail that this video camera gives is incredible. Low light situations are handled perfectly even in the regular AUTO setting. The 5.1 surround sound mic is a fun asset to have.. especially if you plan to watch your videos through a surround sound system. I personnally really love the Immage Stabilization that is built into this video camera. I have tested it by walking fast and by going up and down stairs. You never see any shaking or rough movements. The Immage Stabilization is great for those people who get shaky hands after doing some video for long periods of time. The Touch screen is very reponsive and looks very nice. The menu system looks a lttle "old fashioned", not as pretty looking as other competitors, but very fuinctional and easy to use which is all you really need need. The 32gigs of memory is MORE then enough to hold a vacations worth of videos. BUT it does have a SD slot for you to add more memory.. if you need it. Bottom Line this camera is awesome. PERIOD! I would recomend it to anyone.. from the "point and shoot" users to professionals. NOW.. I do want to discuss one thing. There are several website and reviews that talk in-depth about the cooling fan. Some users have complained that in low sound applications, that the camera mics pic up the fan and create a fan noise "hum" in the sound of the video. I have tested this in several situations. The first test was during my normal every day video recording.. which is for family functions such as kids birthdays, kids school plays, holidays and parties. Under no circumstances did I hear any fan "hum" or noise. Sound was very crisp and clear... especially with the Surround sound setting. I then did a test where I recorded an empty room. No sounds were in room. I played the video back and found that when I played this footage of the empty room through my TV speakers, there was no noise... I even cranked up the TV volume to FULL (100%) and all I got was the TV hiss from the speakers. I then played back the footage and ran the sound through my Surround Sound system. At normal playback volumes, I could hear NOTHING.. no fan "hum" or noise. ONLY when I cranked up my volume on the Surround sound to almost full.. I could hear (barely) in the rear left speaker a slight hum which was basically over powered by the HISS of the speakers from it being too loud.. given the fact that the fan is located on the left side of the camera.. it makes sense that the REAR LEFT mic would pic up more of the fan. BUT the bottom line is that even if you were to record something is a very very very low sound environment.. You would never hear it. I would not let this be a determining factor on wether or not you should buy the camera.
I did forget to mention that it takes great still pictures. 8 mega pixels while you are doing video and 14 mega pixels when you set it in Camera mode only. Pictures are crisp and clear, there is a built in flash, which you can turn off if you do not need it. It is a great video and picture camera.
Pros Nice match to my HMC40... even continues the same battery standard they've used for years, but lost going to the TM900 etc. Image is fantastic. 24p mode for low light and cinema effects, also Blu-ray compatible.
Cons Newer image stabilization means add "hybrid" mode with roll correction. Why are three different methods of setting mode/resolution? For 1080i, you use a menu. For 1080p60, there's an unrelated button. For 1080p24, a hidden "Cinema Mode" menu.
Summary Glad I got this. Just due to the battery issue, I'd probably forget about the TM900 myself, being vested in the old standard "used everywhere" battery, on my HMC40 all the way to my daughter's SD9.
Pros Awesome Picture and awesome features.
Cons Time Consuming to post process video. These are huge HD files you need a computer with at least 4 Gigs and an efficient processor to crunch...
Summary It is a nice prosumer camera. If you like to take shooting video to the "next level" than this is a great product.
Pros None, It doesn't work
Cons Poor quality. No support from Panasonic.
