"great in ideal lighting - horrible otherwise" on by gdhammond
Pros: 10x zoom, clear LCD, good quality video
Cons: autofocus DOES NOT WORK unless lighting is good
Summary: I bought this camera in June, 2004. Getting to the point: if the lighting is good, this is a great camera. If the lighting is anything other than good, the autofocus system simply does not work. Example: basketball games inside various gymnasiums. The autofocus system constantly loses focus because there isn't quite enough light (for this camera - others have NO problem in these conditions). At this point, I'm going to hand this camera off to the kids, and get a decent Canon or Sony. I can't afford to waste precious time (or memories) on a camera with which Panasonic didn't even get the basics right.

"PVGS200 will satisfy only the average videographer" on
Pros: compact, ease of use, good resolution under ideal lighting conditions when subject no more than 10 feet away.
Cons: Noticeable tape clicking noise on recordings. Inaccurate yellow reproduction. Poor low-light performance. When zoomed, color fades and loses focus. Constant access to lcd which consumes battery. I field tested against Canon Optura 40, Sony HC 85, and 5

"8 months old, shot 180 min video, heads went, labor is $269.00 - premature failure of heads" on

Cons: Premature failure, customer service blows, warranty is poor, manufacturer does NOT stand behind the product

"What the heck are the 3 CCDs there for!!!!!!" on
Pros: Good outdoors with the SUN shining.
Cons: Horrible indoors with low light!!! Don't buy it. Consider Sony's DCR-PC350. My brother's got that one and you can't compare them. Sony exceedes by 200% in quality (maybe not in support) but I care for top notch products.

"low-light problems" on by binkybobo
Pros: Small, tight, ease of use
Cons: pixilating images
Summary: I primarily used this camera to make my own porn therefore the image stabilization function was important for me and so was low-light functioning. Unfortunately, as most porn is filmed in hotel rooms which are well below 3000 lux, the camera offered a sharp, but reddish, dark image. Even with a 10W attached light, it performed only so-so. The Panasonic stopped manufacturing the light that they designed for the camera. Who knows, maybe that light worked better. Also, when panning outdoors, sometimes I would see the image pixilating, which I found frustrating. I have invested in a large light with a heavy battery, which should improve the performance when making my own porn with the camera on a tripod (the remote zoom is a plus in these situations). However, the weight of the batter is too heavy for Point of View (POV) porn filming.
