"This unit does not record video to its own hard disk."0.5 starson by xxxeni
Pros: Zoom. I understand the 10 characters minimum requirement, but there's nothing else I can say positive about it.
Cons: Everything else.
Summary: The SDR-H85's 80gb hard drive is useless to me since this camcorder does not record video to its own hard disk. It keeps on bringing up the black screen with "NO CARD". Also the "NO DATA" screen is repeated often and is brought up in an unpredictable manner. The data is there, but it keeps on bringing this glitch of "NO DATA" and "NO CARD". After inserting a compatible SDHC card, the bad news is, it won't record even to an SD card! Thinking I purchased a faulty camcorder I purchased yet another one and... same problems all over again! No hard disk and only SD card recording! This second unit does record to an SD card. The menu screen sometimes freezes and the only way to shut down and restart the camcorder is to remove the battery, because the power button does not shut it down. The cost to repair that is quoted by Panasonic support is astronomical and matches the cost of a new camcorder in the high retail range! The user menu is complicated and confusing to use and does not work properly, always bringing different results. The red blinking icon (crossed file?) is not covered nor explained in the user manual and even the Panasonic support does not know what it means!!! Panasonic support is not knowledgeable and refers me to another department, who keeps on hanging up the line and it takes a very very very very very very very very long time to get through to their support. The Panasonic sales are not knowledgeable and are referring me to wrong products (they can't understand the difference between optical and digital zoom!), wrong specs and wrong items. The repair quote for a used camcorder is larger than the purchase price of a new camcorder. What a weird camcorder! The only good thing that it has a really high optical zoom of 70x. And after purchasing TWO of these, I can't use any for my motion video needs.
