Pros: Handy, easy to use, daylight picture is good, 1.5sec power on and shot!
Cons: Low light video is dark, insufficient memory, 4G will be better, WB response is slow, many restrictions in bundle software in managing video files
Summary: This is my first DV cam, I choose S100 because of it's video quality much better as compare to the recent JVC's HDD cam MG50. It's 3CCD really give more detail video with less noise, especially in daytime. For low light situation it still needs improvement.
Movie quality is very good, however, since it is handy, even if it's O.I.S. is on, hand shaking is still obvious, and I've to hold it much steady (may be I'm newbie in DV).
It's control button is easy to use including the playback buttons, however, if I want to turn off the info display on LCD, I've to go into menu to turn it off. It's a compromise to have less button on body vs direct access features.
It's incovenient to take out the SD card by opening the LCD flip first and pull the open button. Much better if the open button can be accessed from outside without the need to open the LCD flip first.
The bundle software "MotionSD STUDIO" is easy to use, however, it does not compatible to my PC, green screen on the movie was seen in this software (by Windows Media Play is ok). And this software restrict us to upload the movie from SD memory card only! All movies are required to be upload from SD card, otherwise, the software would not display them as index on screen, so I cannot edit other videos by this software.Updated
Pros:
- Battery is sufficient (may be because it's memory is onyl 25 minutes), it seldom use up all battery at a time.
Cons:
- When playback several clips by S100 slideshow mode, a sudden stoppage or sound and screen freeze (about 0.5s) is a little bit distructing.
- Focus is easily cheated by sharp and contrast object even a model's face occupy ~1/4 screen size
- Difficult (not as easy as drag and drop, need to use bundle software'MotionSD STUDIO' coz' it has index files and S100 wouldn't recognise the MOD file) to put back video from PC to S100, or we can put the file as MOV001.MOD in SD card and S100 treat it as index file not found and need several minutes to re-generate the index files.
- When taking self portrait movie, the movie image on LCD you see your self is a mirror image! It's strange, but acceptable.
