"Good beginner basic cam corder."
Pros: For a first time camera, it is a bit difficult to get used to all the available features. However, with some experimentation, you are all set to go. I suggest using the memory chips as main meda storage. The 30 min disks are nice, but rarly used.
Cons: only 30 mins of disk time. 16gb mem disks give error warning even though documentation says you can run them. And I run the sony made memory chip. Software that comes with it is a bit confusing at first.

"Good Cam but the disk size is horrible"
Pros: Easy to use great camera.
Cons: Disk size is horrible. The whole point to a DVD camera is to record longer than 30 min (or 60 min 2 sided) disk. I went to a wedding as the videographer. It worked great and it was a quick start up, but I had to keep changing out the disks & charging

"Nice & Simple - but the DVD 650 records 2ch audio only"
Pros: The 'Editor's take' has inaccurate info. The DVD650 records 2ch stereo only. You must step up to the DVD850 to get 5.1 surround audio.
This unit may be a great upgrade from Compact VHS camcorders for some folks.Cons: A little large compared to SDHC only recorders
