"Buy something else."
Pros: Small and convenient.
Cons: Sony?s obsession to be not compatible.
Summary: Unfortunately I have to agree with oescanan. DCR-IP1 is really nice looking camera. But Sony just does not deliver up to their name. My story with that was much worse.
In 2001 I bought IP7-BT (bluetooth) version of the micromv camera for about $1500. I had multiple problems with it. During download to my PC all movies had squares allover the picture. At first Sony support told me to wait for new driver. Then there was a Firewire card, then new PC. Finally warranty passed. I send it for repair Sony did not charged for parts but they did charge for the labor. Camera comes back with same defect. So I started to call again. At the end Sony agreed to replace IP7 with IP1 if I will pay something like $350. I had no choice? I had already done about 10 micromv tapes.
I have same problems with converting tapes to DVD like oescanan. But I found that Pinnacle supports that type of camera.
My other disappointment was that even Sony is not supporting its own product. They have product which is capable to record video directly from camera to DVD recorder it is called VRD-MC1 but it does not support micromv the very own Sony standard. After investing so much in Sony equipment I am very disappointed.
I heard that JVC has pretty nice CCD camera recording to the HDD but I will wait till they will come with at least 4Mega pixel stills.
