Pros The zoom is fanatastic! 60x! The HD is 60 gigs! It's small, and easy to use!
Cons Because it is easy to use it is a little simplistic but it's cheap and easy! No view finder, OEM battery is very small. Not at all matched with a 60 gb harddrive.
Summary Over all this HDD videocam isn't loaded with features but small enough to put in your coat pocket. With an after market battery (4500 ma available) you can shoot 7 hours of video without spare batteries or recording media. I find that very cool.
Pros It's light weight (lighter than my SR 80)
Comes in different colors
Possible backup to flash drive
Video is better than my 2yr old SR 80, and has a wider Wide mode than it too.
Zoom is much better than 12x on my old camera, but...
Cons ... I cannot see how it's 60x optical zoom is really there. I would rate it at 25x at most
Battery insertion is not intuitive
Manual lens cover
No docking station
Strap is a little low & too thin
No mic port or accessory shoe
Still shots are a joke!
Summary I bought this to have a second angle in my recordings of official events in an indoor setting. It is now my wide angle (panoramic) camera and left alone on a tripod, while I use my 2 yr old SR 80 for my B shots and close ups.
I am very pleased with this lighter model and would prefer to use it for hand held operations, but it's just too damn good for its native wide angle shot not to use it as such. The video is a little soft for my taste, but I am not going to be producing High Def DVDs any time soon.
I paid retail for this $399.99 and I like it better than my $799.00 (2007 price) SR 80 camera! I could have spent $200 more for HD, but my computer cannot handle the big files and rendering right now for my DVD projects. In 2 years I will bite the bullet and get a better computer, better software, and two HD cameras.
