"Great Camcorder, bad software"
Pros: Great zoom and image quality, fairly simple to understand.
Cons: A tad big, near impossible to get images onto a computer from memory stick--I have not been successful yet.
Summary: Though the camcorder is superb, specifically the zoom and simplicity, when I attepmted to transfer pictures and movies off of my Lexar Memory stick duo (model MSDAD-3) things got frustrating. I went to such extents to getting a reccommended DVD writer, said to have better software (of which it did), however it still refused my memory stick. My printer as well rejects the memory stick, suggesting this model and type of stick is just not compatible with my camcorder and computer. I have yet to figure out if it is incompatible with the TRV 480, though the printer (hp psc 2170) certainly is. If you are planning on transferring movies from tape to your computer, I can tell you that is not a problem; anything from tape was transferred with ease--however when I dubbed a photo onto tape and in turn onto the computer it was considered a still movie with a runtime and whatnot-- not a JPEG or GIF image file. If you want to take pictures or movies on memory stick and then put them on the old comp; now that may prove difficult. Perhaps it's just my memory stick, however I easily took pictures and movies on the memory stick, it's just moving it onto the computer that's hard. If you're computer has a memory stick slot you're in luck; that works.
Anyhow, memory stick defectives aside, the camcorder is awesome! The movie quality is fantastic as well as pictures, though you may need to adjust LCD brightness and exposure when in different lighting or looking at brighter things. I always change mine when going outside or returning indoors. The colour range is pretty good and delivers a good product, but if the zoom toggle was wider I would enjoy it (one slip on it and you're suddenly zoomed in too close or too far; even the twitch of your finger can do it). There are a ton of options on the menu; I probably haven't touched nor seen half of them! But all-in-all this makes a great camcorder, aside from the computer difficulties.
