Pros Projector mode is nice 'gadget' Video and still picture quality is good.
Cons Additional cord to play/copy video to my own computer not supplied!
Additional PROGRAM has to be downloaded and it is very INTRUSIVE during installation..I stopped it and it was difficult to remove!
Summary Just bought the SONY mod# HDR-PJ230 projector model Video recorderfor $300+.. liked the feature/operation all the way until I took son Grandsons Football vids and tried to upload from cam to computer! I usually edit, then splice the video clips together for home viewing or copy them to a blank DVD to GIVE to FAMILY.
Can't do it without downloading 'free' "PlayMemories Home' program that requires starting a membership, agreement that THEY can use YOUR PICTURES and VIDEOS pretty much , for WHATEVER they WANT, including selling to third party companies, then it starts copying ALL your videos and pictures DIRECTLY from YOUR COMPUTER DURING THE INSTALL! Even MORE- you MUST PURCHASE SEPARATELY a SPECIAL CORD to COPY or PLAY VIDEOS on YOUR COMPUTER from YOUR CAMERA! Taking this Camera back TODAY! The CAMERA features and picture quality is GREAT! SONY'S controlling POLICIES are THE PROBLEM!
Pros The only value addition in present model is the inbuilt projector. Sony must provide old buyers a compatible adapter through which external source can be used for projection as well as a multi cable at free of cost before bringing any future change.
Cons This new cam lacks most of the user friendly features. Projector has no facility to project from external source. Biggest drawback is wrong positions of zoom & still buttons. SONY is not providing multicable so can1t amplify sound during projection.
Summary I've purchased a HDR PJ230 handycam in last month from Sony Centre, Suhatta Mall, Durgapur. I'm already having DCR 460E which I purchased in 2004 but facing trouble in getting the tapes. That old cam is having so many facilities with remote control, touch screen etc. But the new cam lacks most of the user friendly features. The only value addition in present model is the inbuilt projector. That projector has also no facility to project from external source which is a big drawback. For that we are to spend another INR10000 which is really an exploitation. The biggest drawback of the model is that zoom button is at middle finger and still picture button is at 2nd fnger position which is most inconvenient to use the cam. During taking still while continuing with videography, the camera is getting shaked for that drawback. With the handycam SONY is not providing multicable for which we are to pay another INR2000. For that we can not amplify the sound during projection of the video. The price of the cam was not so less and had to spend INR 29990 but the quality of the product and providing necessary accessories are poor w.r.t that huge amount paid. Sony must provide the buyers like us atleast a compatible adapter through which external source can be used for projection with present model sold, as well as a multi cable at free of cost before bringing any future change. Otherwise we can not recommend this product as a dissatisfied customer to our friend circle.*can't amplify
