"Length of movies the only drawback" on by mkhambete

    Pros: High definition

Cons: Length of movies too short

Summary: The camera in comparison to others is great!
i'd rate it 7.5, but since I can not do so, I give it 8, since I like this camera so much [:D]

    Pros:
    1. High Definition
    2. Easy operation, I have not gone beyond the first few pages of the manual yet, and I am understanding easily how to use every single other feature.
    3. It writes on DVD's, means I only carry DVD's to my friends, when I show them stuff i have shot, I do not have to waste time writing the same data to the computer, and then to a DVD seperately

    Cons:
    1. Writing in HD means you can shoot only 15 minutes in a mode called HQ+, which is seriously the BEST ! The HD-LP(Long Period) mode writes only 30 min on a DVD, which is actually a joke ! (But I can live with that since DVD's dont take up much space, if I have to carry extra DVD's)... BUT do take this into consideration if you plan on ordering this camera.
    2. The camera does not come with even one DVD in the box, so i had to go to out just to buy a couple after it was shipped to me. So I suggest you order a bunch of DVD-RW's while ordering this camera. Amazon.com had the best prices for DVD-RW's.
    3. Everytime you need to used the DVD, its not as simple as taking out the camcorder and putting it into the DVD drive of the computer; you need to finalize it everytime, and the time for finalizing is inversly proportional to the amount of time you have recorded. Also, when finalizing, it is suggested that the handycam be kept very stable. These things have not been a problem for me so-far, but it is sorta annoying.
    4. Sony accessories are toooo freakin expensive !

"I like this camera ,I bought it in Aug 2007.Good videos" on by lpssandhu

    Pros: Good video quality.

Cons: Conversion of video from HD to SD takes too long.

Summary: Bottom line is that this is good camcorder.

"Good Picture, cool size, ok battery, BUT..." on by Cobra064

Pros: Has good picture quality. Decent low light / no light green night vision. Good sound quality.

Cons: Standard battery life could be better. Low light without night vision shows static. In quiet recordings, you can hear the motor spinning the DVD. PRICE is pretty high. Definitely not a prosumer type camera. Use it only for your home videos.

Summary: Its a bit pricey for a home video type camera. Although it has decent features, for the price, you'd expect prosumer quality. If you're planing to use it for normal home videos, its a good cam.

"Good quality video, nice looks and photos but fragile" on by jdhodgson

Pros: Still images are clear and sharp. Video is nice. Price a bit high for what you get and do not get

Cons: Does not come with memory card or HDMI cable. Typical Sony. I bought mine in March 2008 and it is now broken.

Summary: Sony makes you use Sony only products. If you use non-Sony DVD-RW's for 1/5 of the cost but same quality the white screen reminds you that you are not using a Sony disc for up to 10 seconds. I like Sony products but their service is lame. My product is 4 months old and has been babied but still broke. Now I am being charged a $165 labor fee to fix it. They do not even know what is wrong. I cannot power it up 99% of the time and when it does power up if someone sneezes it shuts off.

    "Happy ...BUT" on by Dammaged

    Pros: Great images

    Cons: Vibration in images/vids

Summary: Poor manual...SONY uses a combination of the HDR-UX5 and the UX7 in one manual....as a consumer I would hope spending just under $1,000 for a camcorder I wouldn't have to wonder through a cut corner manual since they both differ in windows/buttons/display.
