"Great camera, NO Mac support" on by mbmast
Pros: Small, full high def, 80GB hard drive.
Cons: No Mac Support. You CANNOT get your video into a Mac.
Summary: Great if you're a Windows user. Currently unusable if you're a Mac user. Maybe Sony will come out with Mac software in the future.

"I've seen better camcorders" on by Camman124
Pros: 80GB storage
Cons: 4 MP stills look very average
Inaccurate colours
Only 16Mbs recordingSummary: I think that the XR-100 image quality looks like the CX-100 that I looked at earlier. They have the same specs but the XR-100 has a HDD (80GB).My findings were that the colours just didn't seem 100% as they had inaccurate tints to them when I saw this in a store and put it up on a big screen.

"Not impressed" on by Enthusiasts
Pros: 80GB storage
Cons: Low zoom
Lower bit rate recording (16Mbs)
Bulky
Weak faded picture.Summary: I had a look at one in a store and I wasn't impressed. I was in the market for a HD camcorder and did my own comparisons in store. The picture quality from HDR-CX100 looked similar to the HDR-XR100, both having a pale look with their image. In my comparisons I found that there were other brand camcorders with a better image, larger optical zoom and higher bit rate recording. They were all around the same price too. However what I did like on the XR100 was at least it had some on board storage 80GB unlike the 8GB on the CX100.

"Incompatible with everything" on by minnesota99
Pros: If you are an employee or major sharheholder of Sony, this is for you. Everyone else, avoid the brand.
Cons: Sony products can not be used with Macs (without major workarounds), and the literature and instructions for use are deliberatly misleading in this regard. Moreover, the default HD files can not be burned to use with a DVD player - only a Blu-Ray.
Summary: After making the mistake of buying a Sony without sufficient research (the Best Buy I was at did not have the Canon I was looking for), I was horrified to learn that most of the functionality of the Sony Handycam required me to buy a Windows-based PC (preferably a Sony Vaio) and a Sony Blu-Ray player. After looking around a number of blogs, I learned that Sony's strategy is generally to force customers to use only Sony products - strategy similar to what Microsoft has used extensively and Apple is moving towards via the iPods and iTunes. It took the better part of a day purchasing and downloading additional software and converting files to use the few minutes of video I filmed on our DVD player, the format in which all our other family video is stored. So, while it is possible to use a Sony with other products, the hassle simply isn't worth it. The camera itself is decent - the pictures were mediocre, but it was relatively easy to use. But unless you are committed to a full Sony line of A/V products, and the associated inflated price tag, go with a different brand.

"Wow! Great replay on 1080p screen." on by judoman3000
Pros: Nice auto-date feature for recordings. This camera is light-weight, shooting doesn't get tiring.
Cons: Zoom lacking a bit. I also wish it had view finder at times. No nite-shot is also a bummer, still have it on my digi8 camcorder and like it. package doesn't include hd cable :-(
Summary: Cool, but almost wish i'd gotten the 200 series for the extra features.
