"Believe the hype!!"5.0 starson by Techulator
Pros: Build quality. Image quality. Auto focus. Continuous shooting speed (so fast!). HD video. Great fully-automatic settings for when you give your camera to someone to take a picture of you. Custom settings. Light sensitivity.
Cons: Price and features - really makes the debate between going up to a 5d or down to a 50d or T2i tough. Other than that... none.
Summary: I made the painful decision to upgrade from a Pentax K10D, of which I owned a couple great lenses and equipment for, and switch to Canon. Not that I was caught up in the hype, I just didn't want to invest anymore money in the wrong direction. Canon has great optics and is trusted by pros around the world, why go against the grain? After debating between the 7d and 5d mII, I decided it was a better idea to spend less on my first Canon body and start collecting my L lenses. The 7d will make an excellent 2nd camera one day. Meanwhile, the upgrade was much more substantial than I anticipated... the quality, light sensitivity, auto-focus, display, everything about it, BLOWS my K10D away. No comparison. I just wish I had started with Canon, maybe a Rebel, and started buying lenses a few years ago when I went with Pentax. I don't recommend making a purchase decision derived from comparing apples to oranges. Recognize your budget, and buy a camera that leaves you with enough extra cash to get a great lens for your particular preferences - portrait, sports, landscape, macro, etc., and the additional gear you need - too much to list. You can keep upgrading your camera body until you're completely happy, meanwhile, hopefully by then you've accrued a few great EF lenses.
