Summary: I just purcahsed the Canon A470 today, and from what I've seen so far, it is quite the performer, especially for a budget camera. The 2.5" LCD allows for comfortable viewing of your subject. The control buttons are well spaced and there is a nice little spot to rest your thumb while taking pictures. The zoom is a nice touch, too. The A470 is equipped with a 3.4X optical zoom lens, which goes a little further than the usual 3X. The price is attractive, too, at only 130.00. Of course, I'm sure you can find it for a lower price at an online store. (I got mine from Circuit City) The pictures are very smooth. The colors are rich, sharp, and saturated.
My only gripe is the extent of the battery life. It didn't seem to last too long. But when I turned it off for a while and came back to it later on, the batteries were fine. So, it's not that big of a deal. -

Pros: EVERYTHING.... real good pictures nearly every time for a low end camera. I LOVE MY CAMERA!!
Cons: this is my third Canon camera, and I HAVE NEVER EVER had a single problem. Canon simply knows how to put a good equipment out there. They don't play around.
Summary: I have had quite a few digital cameras over the years, and will say without hesitation it would be EXTREMELY hard for me to look at any other brand besides CANON. They simply deliver an outstanding product. My camera has sustained hard punishment, and I use it an average 20 days out of the month. Never a problem, and this is my third camera (I had to give the other two away as gifts to relatives, who were impressed with my two previous ones)... Don't know what else to say... hundreds of pictures later, I still LOVE my camera, and would pay MORE for the same camera in a heartbeat! I disagree with the editors, as I don't feel my camera is bulgy.. it is perfectly sized, and I have no problem carrying it everywhere. It is durable, and mine travels with me every day... the poor thing sustains hard treatment just like a 4 x 4 rugged ATV. If I needed another digital, user friendly, affordable, point and click type of thing, using REGULAR batteries (that you can get anywhere), CANON CANON CANON CANON.. got it?
