"Glad I chose this one!" on by aq123

Pros: Price, picture quality, ease of use

Cons: battery cover, delay between pictures

Summary: At first I went to Wal-Mart and bought an HP b/c it was cheap. Afterwards I went online ( I know I should have gone before) and discovered HP should stick to making printers. Being that I have a Canon 35mm camera, I decided to stick with what I know and purchased the A530. Now I have a much better quality camera and not much more than what I paid for the HP. The pictures are great and its easy to use for someone like me who wants to take a picture without making 50 adjustments. For those who like making adjustments, there are plenty of features to keep you busy. The battery cover is somewhat resistant when closing and there is a small delay from one picture to the next when taking picture. Yet and still its a great product and I am very please with my purchase.

"Great for family shots but art photos are complicated" on by mkewing04

Pros: Neat manual option, good automatic shooting, decent battery life for family events, etc. Super Flash!

Cons: Flash is over powering, you can shoot in the dark and produce day light. Also, this is clearly not meant for art photos. Extended exposures burn out the batteries when the camera doesn't choke.

Summary: I really like this camera for use in every day stuff. Taking pictures of my niece as she gets bigger, sunsets and simple portraits come out very nice, although occasionally a little grainy when they get shrunken to fit on-line file maximums. The manual setting also works well as long as you have a good, steady tripod and aren't trying a shot any longer than about 3 seconds. Any longer than that and the batteries are toast. Not a huge problem for most photos but night photos will have to stay in the realm of manual cameras until they figure out how to have a 15 second exposure not eat up all of the batteries. And, of course, the longest exposure is 15 seconds, so moving night pictures are out of the question. But its good for what it's good for and very sturdy, especially with the warranty from the store I got it from. It takes some pretty serious abuse (i.e. a coke spill) and keeps ticking.

Not an art camera but excellent family and social piece of equipment.

"Great camera, easy to use and great quality!!" on by shaynezola

Pros: Fast operation and easy to use

Cons: Wait time after flash is used is a little long

Summary: Camera has only been out for a few weeks now, so far I have had it for 1 week. I bought the A520 and tried it out. It was a pretty good camera but decided to go with A530 because it has 5 mp compared to the 4 mp on the A520 as well as the higher 800 iso and in general a camera with a slightly faster operation rate. Takes great, high quality pics. I am very happy so far.

"really excellent, CNET's way off!" on by mattisprettycool

Pros: Great Quality, Fast and Easy Power-ON, Excellent Features and Controls, Nice feel, Nice Movie Mode!

Cons: 640x480 Movie Mode is only 10fps, But thats hardly a con!

Summary: This is an Excellent camera! It deserves much higher than the 6.8 Cnet gave it! The Movie mode is awesome, the Image quality is excellent, and it has some great features like Colour-Accent/Swap. Cnet Mentioned: The bad: Lackluster performance; noisy, high-ISO photos; awkward zoom switch.

The performance is great, it turns on in half a second and everything is really good, the Photo's are maybe a tiny bit noisy in low lit rooms. the zoom switch is really easy to use! This Camera is really good I highly recommend it!

"Excellent family camera" on by hristo_hristov

Pros: build quality, excellent and realistic photos

Cons: some blurring of the shots taken at SCN-nigth mode. The flash could be more powered for the indoor shots.

Summary: In my job I have used Power Shot G3 and I have had the possibillity to compare the Canon shots quality with many other cameras.
Before baying of our family camera I have hesitated between Canon A530 and some Sony cameras in this price-quality range. After some specialist’s consultations, finally I choused Canon.
After three months use, making of more than 1000 photos (sea, nature, people, night) I could say: perfect build quality, excellent and realistic photos. This camera is an excellent family camera.
Negative notes: some blurring of the shots taken at SCN-nigth mode. The flash could be more powered for the indoor shots.
