    "Fabulous, amazing camera!"

    by mei-chan on July 3, 2007

Pros: Picture/video quality is superb, better than I could have imagined.

Cons: Takes some study time to figure out all its features.

Summary: I was debating between a selection of $150 cameras available at Target but chose the Canon PowerShot for $200 after reading the various CNET reviews about a month ago. I cannot even begin to tell you how thoroughly impressed I am with the quality of this camera.

It is my first owned camera, though I have used other makes and models over the years. I brought the camera with me to a couple concerts this past month and was so impressed with the picture and video quality that I decided I needed to add my two cents to the world of online reviews.

The first concert I took it to was the first time I really used it, so I just left the setting on auto and still took some pretty good shots. However, at the second concert (Dodger Stadium 6/23rd ;) I played with the features a little bit, using the manual mode and the high ISO for these night time shots, trying out the digital zoom and taking over 45" of video (using a 2GB SD card). I cannot tell you how amazed I was/am at the quality of it all.

The videos especially blew me away, as I used the digital zoom and was able to capture some incredible footage of the stage from way back in the upper deck of the stadium. I mean, when you can see the intricate movements the drummer is doing on the big screen that is on the stage (with the video setting at 30 frames/sec and 320 pixels). Even the sound was better than I could have hoped.

I've been using the Duracell Power Pix AA batteries, which seem to last a pretty long time. In the last month I've changed them once or twice, but that was over the course of 800 pics, almost an hour of video, plus using the LCD screen, not to mention all the playback on the camera itself.

I'm still playing with this camera, trying to get the most out of the available features, but I am more than satisfied and have no regrets purchasing it.

The only reason I refrain from rating this 10 out of 10 is because I doubt there can ever really a perfect anything, and perhaps I haven't had it long enough to find any flaws. Either way, I'm very, very happy with it!
