Pros 1) Small and lightweight 2) Very fast startup 3) Excellent 6x lens w/ terrific corner to corner sharpness, image clarity and color reproduction 4) Excellent battery life (powered by two AA batteries)
Cons 1) Tendency to blow out highlights in high contrast scenes 2) Poor viewfinder (not really an issue if you use the LCD like most people do) 3) Color very vivid/images oversharp at default settings
Summary I have been waiting a while for a camera to come out that was very compact/lightweight and had excellent image quality without issues in one area or another…a combination that is difficult to find.
Generally I use a Canon 10d when weight and size are not considerations. However, I wanted something very small and lightweight that I could easily take on hiking, backpacking and travel excursions. The A700 fit this criteria very well. So far I have been very impressed with the image quality. It probably has one of the best lenses currently available on a compact camera with pretty much no issues related to image quality. Operation of the camera is responsive and the menu system is fairly intuitive and easy to navigate. The only function I had trouble finding was the adjustment for image parameters (sharpness, saturation, contrast) which is buried in an area called “my colors” and isn’t easy to find if you are not familiar with the menu system on Canon compact cameras. Adjusting the image parametes can fix most of the "cons" stated above.
To sum up, the camera is fun to use and most of all it delivers outstanding results. Overall I am very pleased with this purchase. A few images that I have taken with A700 can be found here:
"Very good over all"on by bingarou
Pros Good photos easy to use
Cons no image stabiliser
Summary For the past few months I tried many different cameras, none of them where exactly what I wanted.
I went to a camera specialist in Montreal Canada (my hometown)
He recommended the new A 700 he was so sure that I would like it he let me take it home for a 10 days trial.
I was very impress by all it had to offer.
I bought a 1 Gb memory card with 4 Duracell NIMH batterys So far I made about 50 photos on the same 2 batterys without recharging.
I'm very satisfied with the camera performences the only weak point : no image stabiliser and a slow recycle time between photos.
Overall a very good camera easy to use I give it a 9 out of 10
Pros High Zoom with great image quality
Cons Pic & video blurres at high zoom, video reflects numerous white spots at zoom and Image stablisation has little control at high zoom
Summary Pic quality is excellent, zoom is effective and can be easily handled by a learners or new operators. For creative people the same can satisfy their desired to some extent. Image stablisation alongwith quality of pic at higher zoom need to be addressed. I hope if the same could have with higher MP. But in short, its value for money and matchless in its class.
Pros easy to use & great pic quality
Cons chews through batteries quickly
Pros Takes near professional quality photos
Cons None that I can think of
Summary This is a great camera and endures a lot. My next camera will definitely be a Canon.
