Pros Typical underwater camera.
Cons A Sensor issue
Costly Canon service led to leak
Lack of customer service
Too many issues!
Summary I have had many issues with this product. The camera was typical of an underwater camera, but the issues and service were not. A year after getting the camera there was an error with a sensor that required service. Canon charges about $190 for service, regardless of how simple the issue is to solve. I fixed it and thought that would be the end of the problems. I had not exposed the camera to the water since the Canon factory service. On our honeymoon I checked the seal and went into the water to snorkel. I brought it into the water has I had before the service and it would not turn on; I looked at it carefully and was horrified to find that water was inside the camera. I inspected the seal and could find no cause. The camera was ruined. We have come to the conclusion that when the Canon serviced the camera it did not retain the waterproof quality. I have spent hours dealing with rude representatives and dealing with the run around. In the end Canon refused to stand behind their work and I refuse to pay for their mistake. I recommend spending your money on a different brand's waterproof camera.
Pros camera is fast.
Cons clunky. buttons are difficult. LEAKS!
Summary I wouldn't recommend this camera to anyone because it doesn't do what Canon claims. It is nut reliably waterproof, so use at your own risk.
Pros Good photos on land/dry
Cons It LEAKS! Followed by failure - personal experience from 3 cameras.
Summary If you're looking for an underwater camera - DON'T BUY THIS ONE!!
Takes great photos on land and underwater (and video), but leaks consistently (snorkeling in 3m of water). Canon service was ordinary. A good friend of mine had same problem - it leaked and could no longer be used for underwater activities. Pretty disappointing for a $550 camera. I think the only way to go is to buy a 'waterproof' camera and a housing to go with it.
I won't buy canon again due to this issue.
Pros Clear photos
Cons Underwater photographs:
- photometer gets messed up and shoots overexposed photos
- IT LEAKS
Summary I bought a powershot D10 11months ago. I've kept it in impecable conditions. After a swim, I've always cleaned it as per instructions.
Last week, while swimming, water leaked in through the AV outlet.
I was shocked as a $250 camera should last longer than 11months.
I sent it to the manufacturer and I've been told the warranty does not include water leak!!! and had to pay $200 to have it fixed.
As a canon lover, my first camera was a Canon A1, I'm deeply dissapointed.
Anyone thinking of purchasing a D10, think about it twice!!!
Canon deeply fails with this camera as well as with the customer service provided.
Pros Easy to use and it takes good photos. Mine does seem to be waterproof, but I know others have had issues with this.
Cons I dropped the camera from 2' and the rear view finder cracked. Not at all shock proof and Canon has indicated that this is not covered by warranty. They actually said it is only shock resistant under certain conditions!
Summary The Canon customer service supervisor was very rude and not at all helpful. He did offer that I could have this repaired for $179! No thanks. Do not waste your money purchasing this camera. It is not shock proof, not shock resistant and has virtually no warranty to back up Canons false claim of being shockproof. Purchase a less expensive camera and invest in a comprehensive extended warranty instead. No more Canon products for me.
