"Leaked and stopped working 2nd time in the water" on by efraimw

Pros: I was excited to get the camera while in Hawaii as the disposible underwater cameras are awful. Picture quality was very good. Easy to transfer pictures to computer.

Cons: It leaked water into the lens the 2nd time in the water. It no longer worked after that. Support so far has been terrible.

Summary: Be very careful of the warranty on this product. I contacted Canon support and after being transferred to a supervisor I was told the warranty does not cover "water damage, sand/corrosion damage ... dropping the camera." I could not believe this so I looked at the warranty card included with the camera and sure enough that's exactly what it says. Canon does not warranty a camera that is designed to go in the water against water damage??? Or against dropping when they say the camera can survive drops of up to 4 feet??? My only choice right now is to send the camera in to Canon and hope they will fix/replace the camera or I'll have paid $350 for one day in the water.

"EXCELLENT RUGGED CAMERA FOR GOING ON VACATION" on by oilmanowen

Pros: WATERPROOF,AND VERY RUGGED,NOT YOUR AVERAGE
DELICATE DIGITAL CAMERA...AND 12 MEGAPIIXELS TO BOOT

Cons: THE OVER PRICED ACCESORIE KIT

Summary: THIS IS A WONDERFUL ADDITION FOR MY UPCOMING CRUISE VACATION TO GO SNORKLEING WITH....AND ENJOY ON THE BEACH.........I DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT GETTING IT DAMAGED

    Updated on Dec 23, 2009

well i just returned from my wonderful cruise vacation...........And I can tell you that the canon D10 performed Flawlessy.....we went swiming with stingrays in the cayman Island....I shot underwater video as well as stills.........I cant say enough good things about this camera
if you look on amazon on aprox page six of the d 10 reviews you can see some of the video I posted.....the only thing I reccomend is that you soak the camera in fresh water for about 30 min. after you have been in the ocean, And make sure all the hatches are properly closed..
If you do that..you will truly enjoy this camera

"Camera has done been through tons and is still amazing!" on by Sammytutu

Pros: Both myself and my husband are notoriously hard on electronics. This camera has made it through mud and quadding, in swimming pools, snorkelling, swimming with dolphins, drunken picture snapping....and so much more.

Cons: I dislike how it comes with a battery charger where you can take out the battery and charge it, but not one to just plug it in with the battery still in it. Very inconvenient for when you want to take more video than your battery life will allow.

Summary: As I said before, this camera has been through nearly everything. In a house where the average lifespan of an iPod or cellphone is 6 months max, this camera has survived for two and a half years. It's very easy to use, takes wonderful pictures, and lives through things I never would have dared to take a camera near before this one. I recommend this camera to everyone looking for a waterproof and shockproof camera. There are a lot of little things I love about this camera as well. I enjoy how you can choose which corner the wrist strap is on, and despite some others saying it's funny looking, I quite enjoy the changeable faceplates.

"Excellent Over and Underwater Camera" on by christhai

Pros: Produces EXCELLENT pics, Easy to use even for 9 year olds, fits in a jacket pocket, Brilliantly clear underwater video, Great colour. With a tripod produces wonderful landscapes.

Cons: I didn't have it last year in Thailand. Battery life is short - one must buy two batts.

"Great Under Water Camera" on by weese1

Pros: Great pictures and videos in and out of the water. Worked as advertised. Rugged, great picture quality.

Cons: Fat compared to most point and shoot digital cameras. View screen did not break with abuse, but did scratch. Has trouble in low light situations.

Summary: I bought this camera the day it came out for my trip to St. Thomas. The canon d10 delivered as promised. I took the camera out snorkeling at least 10 times. I was always careful to soak the camera in fresh water when I got back to the hotel room as described in the manual. This is to get any potential salt deposits off the camera.

As a result I have great pictures of Reef Squid & Octopus, Sea Turtles and multiple fish of various colors. Best of all are the shots of my 12 year old experiencing these things for the first time. The camera is fast to power up and ready to take a shot almost instantly. The controls are very easy to use while under water. Everything is done via buttons that are labeled clearly.

The kids took the camera with them to the pool and we now have very creative video of them jumping in and out of the water while having the camera strapped to their wrists. I would toss the camera in the snorkel gear bag and not think twice about it. It has a few battle scars from being tossed around, but this has not affected it at all.

While in the water I found I had to turn the screen brightness all the way up to see clearly. This helped to drain the battery faster. Even with that the battery lasted longer than I could in the water. I had bought a spare battery and the combination of the 2 made the camera last all day.

My only complaint would be the camera's ability in low light situations. It had a very hard time focusing and once it did the shots are not great. They lack the crispness and color that the day time and underwater shots had.

I am glad that I had made this purchase. The camera is everything I expected it to be. Kudos to Canon for making a great product and helping me preserve great memories from my trip.
