"Leaked and stopped working 2nd time in the water" on by efraimw

Pros: I was excited to get the camera while in Hawaii as the disposible underwater cameras are awful. Picture quality was very good. Easy to transfer pictures to computer.

Cons: It leaked water into the lens the 2nd time in the water. It no longer worked after that. Support so far has been terrible.

Summary: Be very careful of the warranty on this product. I contacted Canon support and after being transferred to a supervisor I was told the warranty does not cover "water damage, sand/corrosion damage ... dropping the camera." I could not believe this so I looked at the warranty card included with the camera and sure enough that's exactly what it says. Canon does not warranty a camera that is designed to go in the water against water damage??? Or against dropping when they say the camera can survive drops of up to 4 feet??? My only choice right now is to send the camera in to Canon and hope they will fix/replace the camera or I'll have paid $350 for one day in the water.

Same experience with mine. leaked after 4th use. Very disappointed in this camera, and how Canon handles it's products. Don't sell a camera as waterproof if you wont guarantee it. If any one buys it, just use at your own risk.

I have used this camera in both Fresh and Salt water while snorkeling and scuba diving in shallow water. Yours may have been defective, but you also have to follow the directions. You must soak the camera in tap water after every time you take it in the water, and make sure it completely dries prior to opening up a seal IE battery compartment/SD compartment. . If not elements will eat at the seals.

Before I bought mine, I saw your review and so when I got mine, it went immediately into the sink, tub, fountain, shower. Everything I could think of. I've now had mine for 3 months and have had no problems at all. Sorry to hear about the problems.

I have had an Olympus waterproof digital camera (the 1st model) for 3 years now, and have not had any water damage. Takes great underwater photos too.
