"My wife loves it!" on by ggraeber
Pros: GREAT photo quality, lots of features, easy navigation of features, finally the return of flippable LCD back screen as with her old Powershot, great low light noiseless pics of children! It has a viewfinder rather than just the screen.
Cons: The price is steep but that is about it for an advanced amateur this is a great camera.
Summary: My wife takes A LOT of pictures and is exceptionally happy with the new G11. Image quality and low light pics are incredible. Many ways to adjust low light capabilities, and they are mostly taken without noise while capturing shots of our young children running around. Outstanding nature and macro shots of bugs, lizards, fungi, and trees in fall color! So far a great camera after 2 weeks and about 1000 shots. Feels and looks like professional shots to this amateur. Highly Recommended!!

"Excellent Camera with minor flaws" on by PaulvanWijk
Pros: The LCD can flip out which is essential for me. Many buttons and wheels give a quick access to all important functions. The function of one button can be set as desired. This makes the camera a wonderful instrument to use.
Cons: ? The lens of the PowerShot G11 gives in wide angle position some barrel distortion.
? The i-contrast functions is sometimes greyed out in the menu and cannot be chosen any more.
? The optical viewfinder shows only 75% of the picture to be taken.Summary: ? The lens of the PowerShot G11 gives some barrel distortion, only in wide angle position. This can be corrected in Photoshop in a matter of seconds.
? The i-contrast functions is sometimes greyed out in the menu and cannot be chosen any more. There is no explanation in the manual and this may be an error in the software. A work around is to reset the camera. It is a happy coincidence that the reset function does not affect all settings.
? The optical viewfinder shows only 75% of the picture to be taken. Especially on the bottom the difference is major.
- Nowhere in the documentation: The bit depth is 8 bits per colour and the gamut is Adobe 1998
? The 193 pages manual is only supplied on CD. Intensive study is needed to get the best out of this camera. It is a camera meant for experienced users.
? Many buttons and wheels give a quick access to all important functions. The function of one button can be set as desired. This makes the camera a wonderful instrument to use.
- I take this camera always with me in a face cloth in my bag. I love it! -
"Best non SLR anywhere near its price range" on by mauisean
Pros: As a professional photographer I need a small compact for some assignments. My other backup camera died on a trip, so I dropped in to a local store and picked up the G11. Meets all my needs. Color depth, overall metering, control, Raw function.
Cons: slow start up. Have to be careful with type of automatic focus chosen (whether center or face, etc). Give camera time to 'see' the scene in low light. Insure you read the manual. It does come with manual, regardless of other review stating only on CD
Summary: Anyone just starting with serious photography who isn't ready to step up to an SLR will find this camera extraordinarily versatile, the capacity of this camera to take stunning photos is there. Unlike all the point and shoot cameras with mediocre results, if you want the absolute best quality photos in a small camera , this is it. I accidentally left my charger in a hotel and had to shoot almost 1000 shots with only one battery, and the camera came thru for me. Insure you read the manual. This is a camera to experiment with, although in an pinch it can do very well as a point and shoot. Highly recommended.

"Most phenomenal camera in it's class without a doubt" on by Sled-Hedz
Pros: Unsurpassed in it's photo clarity. The fit and finish are unequaled. Battery life is excellent. Ease of use on the settings are fantastic and the dials operate with ease, even is very cold weather. The best camera in it's class!
Cons: Can't find any and believe me, I'm very hard to please.
Summary: If you want SLR quality in a smaller package, this is the camera for you. Low light quality is excellent. Outdoor scenery shots are breathtaking. Portrait shots are exquisite. Action shots are remarkable. I highly recommend this camera for the beginner who can afford this, because you can start out by setting this camera on auto and taking high quality photo's, while you are learning to use all of the control in the manual settings.. You won't go wrong with this camera and the Optical Viewfinder is a great Plus!!!

"Very good but annoying flaws" on by plcjr
Pros: The 28mm is nice (I traded up from a G9). Great at 200 ISO or less. Excellent flexibility of settings. Very good standard video capture.
Cons: The dial. In cold weather forget trying to set anything properly. No zoom on the video (was on my G9?). White balance problems.
Summary: Nice camera but functions on the dial don't seem as crisp as my G9 was. The pictures also lack a certain sharpness of the G9. The color is better on the G11. The G9 had HD video, not on the G11, but the regular video looks better than most video cameras. I could also zoom video on the G9. But I wanted a wide lens and the 28mm is nice (but you give um 120-200 zoom with this model). Not sure if the trade up was worth it.
