"Decent but not great"2.5 starson by tnblkbear
Pros: Great pictures, lots of settings and modes, fairly easy to use.
Cons: Shutter lag, auto focus and image stabilization not the best, the ability to get an extra or replacement battery.
Summary: I previously owned the G5 and when looking for a new high end point and shoot, I came back to Cannon. I have to say that I am disappointed in this version in the series. The biggest problems are the shutter lag and the auto focus. Too many times I've missed shots because of the shutter lag. Simply terrible. And I've also had a lot of pictures ruined because the camera was unable to obtain or hold focus for the shot, so I ended up with a lot of blurry pictures. And the most shocking to me was that I could not find an extra or replacement battery in any of the local camera shops or even chains like Best Buy. Really? You can order one but not having use of the camera for a week while waiting for a battery is ridiculous.
