"face change" on by joshUNC04

    Pros: 6 megapixels

Cons: no other amazing add'l features

Summary: I currently own the S2 IS which I bought as soon as it came out last summer for taking pics on vacations. The camera is excellent, offers amazing picture quality, and I found the stabilizer useful. The new S3 IS adds 1 MP, although this is unnecessary for increased resolution, and the camera is now black instead of silver (possibly to give more resemblance to the higher end Rebel model). Save your money and buy the equally good S2 IS which can now be bought for around $350 vs. the $500 for the S3 IS.

I am just trying to get useful information from users who actually own the camera and what they like don't like. I don't understand all of the individuals that are rating camera's they do not own, and have not extensively used.

The LCD screen is bigger, the sensor seems to preserve more detail while not being too noisy, LIVE HISTOGRAM (in P, Av, TV, and M mode only) is now available, framing grid, 800 ISO.

More than one upgrade. Not a revolution, but certainly more than a few more pixels. Spend the cash on the new one, I'm glad I waited and skipped the S2.

It does not help for people giving there guesses. Wait until you have one in your hand and using it so it will help people decide.
Thank you

I used to own an S2 also: not an excellent but a GOOD, SOLID camera. Has problems focusing in not-so-perfect light. Looks like the new S3 improves on that, plus: 1 more megapixel, plus the 16:9, plus the 'Sports' shooting mode, plus the 9-point AiAF, plus the 320x240 at 60fps movie, plus the 800 ISO, plus a little larger LCD, plus the black look.

If the extra $150 pose a problem by no means go for the S2: else, stick around for the S3, it's worth it.
