"WARNING!! Avoid Canon Products" on
Pros: Worked as advertised for 18 months...
Cons: ... out of nowhere the dreaded "E18" error. Camera's toast. Cheaper to accept Canon's offer of a refurbised upgrade to S410 than to fix. A $400+ camera that's well cared for should last longer than 18 months, I think.

"Camera lasts only TWO years - Boo to Canon" on by SusanTeq
Pros: Great little camera while it lasted
Cons: After two years, got intermittent Memory Card Errors
Summary: I loved my S400 until it suddenly came up with Memory Card Errors (Code S50 ) after only two years. Had nothing to do with defective memory card, as new one gave same error. Had nothing to do with the battery, as a new battery didn't help. Had nothing to do with humidity, cold, heat or dryness, as error appeared under all circumstances. SOMETIMES it would suddenly work, which would SEEM like a change in circumstances was the reason. A Canon technician the other day told me to RESET the camera by holding down the MENU button for 10 secs. I was overjoyed when the Memory Card Error went away, and thought that was the solution. But the error returned again a few hours later, and resetting did NOT help.
I called up Canon again, and they said that they could fix it for $150 or upgrade to the S500 for $200. The representative told me that the problem is with the PINS, and that you have to replace the WHOLE unit, that you just can't bend them back into place. To the naked eye, the pins seem fine.
PS - I just now tried resetting the camera and now the error went away. But who wants to take a camera like this on vacation, never knowing when it will work or not! -
"Memory Card error" on
Pros: good pics
Cons: After 8 months the camera starts to give problems, tons of bad feedback on this camera. Canon should have a giant recall on this camera. DONT BUY CANON.....

"Loved it until "E18" error killed it" on
Pros: Great photos. I loved everything about this camera, until the lens stopped working.
Cons: After turning the camera off one time, the lens made a strange sound, and didn't retract. Afterwards, when attempting to turn the camera on, the screen just shows "E18" and shuts down. A quick web search shows that this is a common problem, which Canon c

Pros: Great quality. VERY small!!
Cons: Basically dont get this camera. It is VERY pron to having some random error that makes the camera unusable. Know of two cameras that died in less than a year. Warrenty does not cover it!!!
