"Not Worth the Upgrade for Previous S Series Owners."
Pros: Nice size/aesthetics, large screen, fast timings with DIGIC II processor
Cons: Can't shoot in RAW, problems with overly saturated green tones, pricing
Summary: This camera does not live up to its pedigree. Previous S Series cameras were the ultimate prosumer cameras allowing people who wanted to expand their skill set to do so without jumping into the SLR market. The lack of being able to shoot RAW images is a real drawback. If you are looking for an advanced point & shoot this is overkill. I would wait till the second revision of the this new form factor in the S series till all the kinks are worked out. Those considering the S80 might want to look at the S70 which is considerably cheaper, has the same lense, uses cheaper memory and allows you to shoot in RAW mode for greater control of your images.

First, I thought it's the G series that were supposed to be the ultimate.
Anyway, the S70 is considerably slower (lack of DIGIC II). Yes the lens is the same - but the lens is the same from the G2 to the G6: and the cameras have improved considerably.
I doubt you'll find a camera with more manual control options in this form factor.
As for RAW mode, very few real-world users actually use it, especially on a point and shooter. It would be nice to have, but personally (and for most users) it's not a sticking point in the least. -
Canon rushed this camera into production to catch up with Olympus. Specifically the Stylus 800. Do you really want to buy a catch up camera? Go by the user rating not the editors choice rating. They're having a love affair with Canon that isn't warrented.
