"Great camera for an on-the-go person!"
Pros: I like the small size and great picture quality
Cons: This camera has limited manual features.
Summary: Digital cameras all have different features, advantages, and drawbacks. When I looked for a camera, I wanted good picture quality. I also wanted my camera to be small enough to easily carry. As a college student, I wanted a camera that wouldn?t be a hassle to use. I found these qualities in the Canon SD 1100is Digital Elph.
The small size of the camera makes it easy to take anywhere without being burdened by a huge camera bag. I can put the camera in my backpack so I can have it when walking around campus, for in-class demonstrations, or whenever a picture moment arises. Although the camera is small, the screen on the back is still large enough for pictures to be easily viewed.
This camera takes decent pictures. The 8.0 megapixel pictures have a good enough resolution to show detail in enlargements without becoming blurry. When the 3x optical zoom is not enough, the high resolution also allows for the use of the digital zoom without diminishing picture quality too much. However, I would not recommend this camera to photographers to use in their professional work. The manual features are limited; there is no manual focus option.
The camera takes great action shots, making it perfect for an on-the-go person. Crazy times in a dorm room can be captured to remember and laugh over later. It also takes great pictures of scenery. I have used it to take pictures of the autumn leaves, and the color in the picture is as vivid as the leaves.
Another advantage is the wrist strap. It has a sliding toggle that slides along the strap to fit around your wrist, lessening the chances of dropping the camera. However, I have managed to drop this camera on a cement floor when I wasn?t wearing the wrist strap. Although the bottom of the screen cracked, most of the screen and the rest of the camera continues to work.
The battery on the camera lasts quite a while without recharging. It shows a full charge for most of the battery life. When it shows only two of three bars of power, however, it will run out of power faster than it used up the first bar. The rechargeable battery that comes with the camera ends the need to buy batteries for the camera, as well as the need to haul around extra sets of batteries in case those in the camera die.
Overall, this camera takes great pictures and is easy to bring anywhere. I would whole-heartedly recommend this camera to anyone who wants to take pictures to capture memories, but not to the serious photographer for use in the studio.
