"CNET Is STILL Misrepresenting This Camera"
Pros: Ultra fast, stunning image quality, fits in pocket
Cons: No manual controls...needs at least fast shutter setting. No live histogram. No battery-life indicator.
Summary: It's nothing less than shocking to me that this site still is publishing misinformation about this camera! Here's a quote from their editorial page under Who's It For: "Consumers who want a good-looking, compact camera and don't care much about image quality."
This is utter nonsense! The SD500 rivals the Canon G6 in image quality. I've had it for about a month and it is simply the best point-and-shoot your money can buy. I sincerely question the CNET reviewer's ability and/or their bias. If you want something resembling a REAL and professional review before plunking down your $500.00, I suggest going to dpreview or dcresource and reading the reviews there. I post under JTL at dcresource...check out my images if you want to see what this camera can do.Updated
CNET should be ashamed! You actually have to know how to use a camera before you review it!

I wrote a review on the camera after about 1 month of use. Having now had about 6 monthes under my belt, the 7.2 Very good Cnet rating is right on.
One con that they listed about blueish-purpleish outlines is starting to become a surprising annoyance. It's a good camera, but if people consider the image quality a 10, then they don't have very high of standards, even for a PAS. -
Are folks still having problems with the LCD cracking? Is this happening on the 550?

The Fujinon Lense and the Super CCD HR make both of these cameras great. Not only are they fast (lag time 1/100 sec) but also the pictures are extremely clear.

I have the SD500 and it images compare to the best SLRs. I'm a professional photographer and I now use the SD500 on some important shoots and no knows but me (until now). Buy and compare.

I have been looking for a great new camera (i have the S400 now, and am ready for something new). Anyways, I loved the SD500 in the store but did not buy it because of what CNET said about this camera, regarding the image quality. I did my research and after reading this post, I made a decision and bought it. This camera is awsome. Thanks!!!
