"Service is a big problem at Canon"

by Jim Brakken on May 21, 2007

Pros: Good quality camera, good photos, compact.

    Cons: Very poor service.

Summary: First, let me say that I like Canon cameras. However, just a month out of warranty, my Canon broke. Canon Repair would not back it up. They wanted me to pay for shipping plus over $100 to repair, or pay shipping plus $175 for a refurb. I wrote back that this was unacceptable. They said this was my only option. I was going to trash the camera rather than risk paying to much and having more problems. Then I found a forum that told of MANY bad Canons, all with the same problem, plus, a phone number where I could get the prob fixed at no charge. Canon should be ashamed! How many good, loyal customers fell victim to their poor service policy? I will NEVER buy or recommend another Canon product. Please help me spread the word. See the S2 string at DigitalAdvisor for more. Canon BAD. VERY VERY BAD! Thanks! Lakeleader

We own an SD750. is this what yours was? what was the problem with all the Canons? what is the phone number you were given to fix it?

You are the only one giving this camera a bad review therefore do not know how to take a picture. I am supprised you figured out how to turn it on.

i just got the error today...please... do you have the number for the place where i could get it repaired for free? it would help me so much.

It could not have been this one. It hasn't been out long enough to be out of warranty. Just because you did not get the extended plan on an old camera and it came back to bite you doesn't mean that you should go bash all the cameras made by the company. I bet you didn't have a problem at all and are spamming for that site that you put up.

Since the SD750 was just released earlier in 2007, and Canon has a 1 year limited manufacturer's warranty on its products, this review could not possibly be for the SD750 (the "reviewer" states that his warranty has expired). I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but this is supposed to be a product review---not a place to air your grievances with the manufacturer in general.

Your whine about Canon Support when your product was OUT of warranty was more important to you than rating this camera. Too, your proof of a free fix to your camera problem via www.digitaladvisor.com is bogus - that site shows ONLY LCD TV's. Had you a direct link, you could have provided it, but you didn't. Because of the above I think you just like to whine and be untruthful. Shame on you!

I can't believe you gave this camera a 2? It is a great camera and I would recommend a canon to anyone over any other brand. Just because you didn't have good luck with the company doesn't make the camera terrible.

So you had a camera that you evidently used during the warrenty period, but you did have a problem after the warrenty expired. To me, that problem doesn't warrant a 2 out of 10. When you select such a low rating, it skews the overall ratings unfairly (in my opinion). Additionally, you didn't really describe what else, besides service (e.g. poor image quality...abismal if a 2 of 10)), caused such a low rating.

Could that be the error message to which you refer?
I headed to DigitalAdvisor.com and found info on televisions but nothing on cameras.
Would you mind sending along the link that takes me to the free repair you mentioned?
    Many thanks -
    dayna
