Pros Very good quality pics, Very easy to Use, Auto scene mode is excellent, ability to program mode, Very Light Subcompact, non-propietary HD cable + memory card is a great plus, Excellent 720p HD video with ability to digital 5x zoom while recording
Cons I wish it were 4x optical zoom.
Summary What I needed a camera for:
Taking family pics.
Recording family events.
Recording youtube vids.
Camera's I compared before buying:
This model, the Canon SD940, Samsung TL220, and the Sony Cybershot 290.
Although there is a newer SD940 with 4x optical zoom I chose this one because it has the optical picture viewer. The newer version 940 takes away that little optical box in order to increase the LCD from 2.5 to 2.7 inches. IMO its important to have the optical viewer because the LCD screen is not anti-glare of transitional therefore you'll need to look through the little optical viewer to take pictures if its really bright outside (which happens frequently to me)
Then I really struggled with my comparison shopping:
1) The Samsung option was ruled out because it had a plastic lens and you're just paying for the front LCD screen which isn't worth the extra $100 bucks.
2) The SD940 took away the optical viewfinder and I really did want that 4x optical zoom I'd much rather be able to always take pictures :)
3) The Sony Cybershot 290 (not 230) was my second choice. But it does not allow to record vid in Compact HD mode and doesn't allow you to zoom whatsoever while recording movies. It was also noticeably bulkier than the canon.
Bottom line: For me the following features are really what made me buy this one:
1) Great picture quality
2) Most compact and lightweight available
3) Excellent quality HD 720p videos
-ability to use digital zoom while recording
4) Uses normal SD card for memory as well as USB cable and HDMI vs. propieritary brand etc...
5) Price wise its the best option
Pros This camera is much smaller than the previous SD1000 that I used to have. Much more manageble in your pocket while traveling and super lightweight. Turns on fast and provides great snapshots when needed. New "Auto" mode is better than old version.
Cons There's a small lag in the LCD from what you're poiting at. If you're a real videophile, this will bug you a bit. Shutter button is in an odd spot and the tactile feel of the buttons is a bit uncomfortable (can't tell when you've pressed them).
Summary Overall this camera is much stronger than the previous SD1000 that I used and loved. I'm always impressed with the Canon lineup and was super happy to find this camera at a good price (Fry's had a deal for $169). A few changes were made that I'm not used to yet, but I'm sure will only be a matter of time before I become accustomed to them. I LOVE that it has HDMI for video and my TV when viewing the pictures. Very happy with the quality and aesthetics. Better buttons and faster adjustment from what you're pointing at to what you're looking at in the LCD screen would better an improvement. 4 of 5 all the way. Small, but strong. Perfect for a vacation camera or looking to take candids at a party. This is not a DSLR, but take quality pictures. Highly recommend.

Pros Still figuring them out.
Cons Still finding them out.
Summary I bought this camera last X-mas. The photos are great. We have the local brick-n-mortar print out our uploaded photos. Recently, a store questioned the copyrights on our photos, the quality was so good that their photo expert thought our photos belonged to a professional photographer. True story about a very good camera. I am happy with my purchase of this product.

"Amazing camera!"on by Saladnut
Pros Size, quality, good pictures/color, amazing light gathering
Cons None that I have found.
Summary Bought this camera for our Alaska trip. The 12-mega pixels allow digital zoom without degrading the picture. I was able to take very nice wildlife pictures with the zoom. Taking pictures in dark environments without a flash is amazing. I took pictures at dusk in Alaska and also in a dark environment at the zoo, and they come out like full daylight. The size is nice for your pocket or purse. I have 2 earlier Canon's, and I have no regrets on this one. My larger Powershot 780 I bought for the zoom, and while I like it, having something small enough for my pocket makes it so much more convenient, and I will take more pictures as a result. I can think of no negatives on this camera. The controls are small, but then that is the point of the camera, right?
