Cons: Lack of button backlighting makes operation in the dark a guessing game, buttons are relatively small

Summary: I bought this camera because lugging a dSLR as an everyday camera was very inconvenient. As a still camera, the SD780 offers picture quality that, while not outstanding, is definitely above the average point and shoot camera. As a camcorder, the 720p HD videos look amazing compared to other point and shoot VGA recorders. Saying that, I would not consider this a replacement to a stand alone HD camcorder, but it is nice to be able to record in HD if the situation presents itself. The greatest thing about this camera is its size. The front face is about at wide as a credit card and the body is slightly thicker than an iPhone. It is camera that you can slide in your pocket and never think about it to you need it. Bottom Line: This camera will not fulfill the needs of a prosumer power user needing manual controls over each shot, but it will produce excellent video and stills in a diminutive, extremely portable body.
